The cowboy game Red Dead Redemption 2 was for many thousands of gamers the gaming highlight of the last years, until Baldur’s Gate 3 was released. However, the development of the online mode “Red Dead Online” is weaker than hoped. This disappoints and frustrates players of the Wild West epic. Now the new update 1.3.2 has arrived, but players are literally begging Rockstar for content before GTA 6 is released.
What is the status of Red Dead Redemption 2?
- Red Dead Redemption 2 was a huge success for Rockstar at its release in 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One and in 2019 on PC. It received rave reviews (97% on Metacritic) and sold very well.
- The game was supposed to be developed like GTA 5: it would not receive single-player DLCs but instead offer a growing, vibrant online world: Red Dead Online.
- But this development never quite worked out for Red Dead Online, and in July 2022 it was said that Rockstar was now focusing on the development of GTA 6.
A new update for RDR2 is coming and brings … bug fixes
This is the latest development: Now on March 19, a new update for Red Dead Redemption 2 has indeed been released, patch 1.32 (via rockstar).
But the update did not bring any new content, only some stability improvements and bug fixes. The update is 1.52 gigabytes in size, as seen in a screenshot.
I just want to shoot cowboys in their houses
This is how players react: In the comments on reddit regarding the new patch, one can see how much players desire new content for their favorite game and how great the interest in Rockstar’s masterpiece still is.
“It’s frustrating to see that they keep the game alive but don’t bring any new online content or stories.”
People are wishing for something, anything from Rockstar, any crumb of content would be fine:
“Please, I just need more horses and a hunting rifle. I would even pay for a DLC crap package if that excites you,” says one user.
Another one complains: “They leave single-player players alone after the release. It’s so annoying. I just want to wear a sweatshirt and shoot cowboys in their houses.”
This is what it’s about: This has been a frustrating situation for Red Dead Redemption 2 for a long time.
Clearly, Rockstar has made the tough business decision to invest their resources in GTA 5 and GTA 6 instead of putting more work hours into Red Dead Redemption 2, even though the game is so much better than many other online games out there that continue to be developed.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed a wonder machine, where you put in a coin and get out five coins on the other end. But GTA 5 and GTA 6 are even better investments, where even more coins drop for every doubloon you put in at the top.
For cowboys, this is very hard to understand. They just want a new horse or to shoot a different cowboy. That can’t be too much to ask for.
