After the PS5 lost popularity among MeinMMO readers in March 2020, it is now rising again. Here are the results of our latest survey on the next-gen consoles.
What was it about? In recent months, the two console manufacturers Sony and Microsoft have held conferences that bombarded us with new information and games.
In a survey, we wanted to know last week how your purchasing decision stands for the two next-gen consoles. Here is what you told us.
These are the results: The survey ended today, August 18. A total of 2219 users voted.
The distribution of votes was as follows:
- PlayStation 5: 57.37% (1273 votes)
- Xbox Series X: 32.4% (719 votes)
- None: 5.36% (119 votes)
- Both: 4.87% (108 votes)
Xbox Series X – Everything about release, specs, price, games, and controller
No console is not an option
Why is this interesting? Compared to our last survey in March 2020, the PlayStation 5 has gained votes again. With 57.37%, it has risen about 8%.
One reason for this could be that there was a real drought of information regarding the PS5 in March. Not even the design of the new Sony console was known to us. However, in recent months, Sony has stepped up its information policy, released some information, and likely managed to convince some doubters among you.
Still choosing the PS5 because of the exclusive titles, since I already own a PC and Microsoft is currently releasing every game for PC ??

The Xbox Series X has lost some percentage points at 32.4% compared to March (35%), but has remained stable overall. Microsoft also introduced its new games for the upcoming console during the summer, including gameplay material for Halo Infinite, which will even be included in the Xbox Game Pass.
Clearly the Xbox. I borrowed my brother’s Xbox One a few days ago and am totally thrilled with the services, especially the Game Pass Ultimate. I have a lot to play since I’ve never played many games that are in the Game Pass, or the ones I would like to play again.

Another interesting aspect is the fact that only 5.36% of you will not buy either of the two next-gen consoles. Consoles are part of your gaming arsenal, and you will not miss out on the next-gen.
Similarly, very few will buy both consoles. The number stands at 4.87%. Compared to March, the votes for “Both” and “None” have changed slightly overall:
- Votes for “Both” in March 2020: 5%
- Votes for “None” in March 2020: 3%
The trend over the past year: We have now conducted 4 surveys on MeinMMO regarding the topic PS5 vs. Xbox Series X. Here is an overview of how your opinions on the consoles have changed over the course of a year:
| Survey | Xbox Series X | PlayStation 5 |
| 19.08.2019 | 24% | 58% |
| 28.01.2020 | 29% | 54% |
| 23.03.2020 | 34% | 49% |
| 17.08.2020 | 32% | 57% |
What about other communities?
On our sister sites GameStar and GamePro, a similar survey was also conducted. Here are their results:
- PS5: GameStar – 31.19%, GamePro – 62%
- Xbox Series X: GameStar – 14.24%, GamePro – 25%
- None: GameStar – 44.23%, GamePro – 8%
- Both: GameStar – 4.35%, GamePro – 5%
In stark contrast here is GameStar and the fact that a whopping 44.23% of their readers will not buy either of the two consoles.
This difference is not very surprising in itself, as the audience of GameStar mainly consists of PC gamers, many of whom own powerful computers. The target audience of GamePro, on the other hand, consists of console players, and there are also many console fans here at MeinMMO.
The great commonality of the three surveys is that the PS5 ranks ahead of the Xbox Series X in all communities. The readers seem to be quite unanimous in their choice across communities.
While in some forums the console war rages again, the Xbox head Phil Spencer claims that Microsoft is not actually about selling more consoles than Sony.
