Sony has released the new PlayStation Plus Games for January 2020. Once again, there are three monthly games, 2 for PlayStation 4 and one for both the PS4 and the new PlayStation 5. PS5 owners can also secure the PS Plus Collection.
The new PS Plus games for January 2021 are: Owners of a PS Plus subscription can now access three new games through the service. This time, the following games are included:
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider for PS4 – an action-adventure where you play as the iconic Lara Croft
- GreedFall (base game) for PS4 – a fantasy RPG about exploration and discovery
- Maneater (base game) for the PS5 – a crazy action RPG where you play as a shark
The first two games in the list can, of course, also be played on the PS5 thanks to backward compatibility. In addition, console owners can still secure the 20 titles of the PS Plus Collection, if they haven’t done so already.
When will the new monthly games be available for free download in the PS Store? The games will now be available for all PS Plus members without additional costs in the PS Store for download.
The PS Plus Collection has been available permanently since the launch of the PS5 and can be downloaded at any time if you missed it so far.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4)
What is Shadow of the Tomb Raider? It is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. The direct sequel to “Rise of the Tomb Raider” is the third and final part of the last Tomb Raider trilogy.
In the game, you again take on the role of the legendary Lara Croft, who this time embarks on a journey into the jungles of South America. There, she aims to stop the paramilitary group Trinity, led by Pedro Dominguez. You track him to an excavation site in Mexico that leads to a temple where a dangerous artifact is hidden.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider lets you explore jungle areas, hunt wild animals, and collect resources necessary for survival. You rely on your skills, which you unlock with skill points after leveling up. Moreover, you have a selection of various firearms like shotguns, pistols, or bows to take out your enemies.
You should check out Shadow of the Tomb Raider if you were already a fan of the previous games and are now looking for a good action-adventure game. Shadow of the Tomb Raider continues the story of its predecessor and also builds heavily on gameplay mechanics. Fans of the series will therefore get their money’s worth.

Greedfall (PS4)
What is GreedFall? In this action RPG, you create your own character, with whom you then explore the mysterious island of Teer Fredee. The setting is roughly the 17th century and strongly addresses the colonization of the island; however, GreedFall also includes monsters and magic.
In the RPG, you won’t just fight through the story but also talk, as diplomacy, negotiations, lying, and deception are also part of it. The island is controlled by several different factions that you can either support or oppose.
To successfully compete against your enemies, you can recruit characters to fight alongside you. They have their own specializations in combat and can also be equipped with different pieces of armor.
You should check out Greedfall if you enjoy RPGs with a lot of decision-making freedom. GreedFall gives you the option to determine how your story unfolds, who is your friend and who is your enemy. And of course, also how the ending will look.

Maneater (PS5)
What is Maneater? The crazy third-person action RPG puts you in the role of a baby shark. Your story is revenge against Scaly Pete, who caught and gutted your mother. You escape from the shark hunter, but not before biting off his arm.
In the vast ocean, you must now survive alone by eating other creatures to gain the vital proteins, minerals, and fats. But also rare mutagens, as one of your goals is to evolve into a proper megalodon.
On your journey, you explore the depths of the open world of Port Clovis, complete side quests, and fight against other predators. And of course, consume lots of people.
You should check out Maneater if you are looking for a crazy and bloody RPG that is different from the usual games. Your shark has various skills that allow you to tear apart not only people on the beach but also other predators.

PS Plus Collection (PS5)
What exactly is the PS Plus Collection? The PS Plus Collection is a compilation of 20 top titles that were released for the PS4 console and can now be played on the PS5.
All PS5 owners with an active PS Plus subscription can download this collection since the launch of the PlayStation 5 and play via the backward compatibility of the new Sony console.

How do you get the PS Plus games?
The requirements: Essentially, you only need an active subscription to PlayStation Plus, a paid service from Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The membership costs around €60 per year – depending on the duration of the subscription. Members usually receive 2 PS Plus games monthly – which are provided as a digital download in the PS Store and at no additional cost. On top of that, you also benefit from some other advantages.
Since the release of the PS5, in addition to the two PS4 games, there is now also one on the PS5.
