In Pokémon GO, a trainer has discovered PokéStops that look significantly different from other PokéStops. What is this all about?
There is probably no trainer in Pokémon GO who has not had contact with PokéStops so far. Here you get items for daily use, can activate lures, and receive field research.
A trainer on Reddit has now discovered a special PokéStop with a unique design. He also has an explanation for what this is all about, although some voices disagree with him.
This is known but not very widespread
What kind of PokéStop is this? The PokéStop that the trainer shares with the community is a PokéStop with opening hours. According to the trainer, this PokéStop closes on Fridays and reopens on Mondays. In the meantime, it is not possible to interact with the PokéStop.
The possibility that PokéStops are closed for certain times is not new according to some voices from the community and has been integrated into the game for several years. Businesses or property owners can apply to Niantic with the times when the PokéStops on their properties should be closed.
The PokéStop looks significantly different from the regular ones. The design of closed PokéStops is rectangular in the trainer’s post, instead of the usual round shape. Additionally, there is a small circle in the middle of the rectangle.

Error or Update?
What does the community say about this? The community is not entirely united regarding the appearance of the PokéStop. While some trainers report that they have never seen anything like it, others are convinced that it is a display error.
They argue that they have also seen closed PokéStops in the game that looked different. However, the question is raised whether the appearance of closed PokéStops might have changed as part of the latest graphic updates in the game.
This is known, but not very widespread. Property owners can request that PokéStops/gyms be opened/closed at certain times of the day and night
, writes a trainer on RedditThey don’t look like that. This must be some kind of bug, because the PokéStops near my workplace close every evening and they are only smaller PokéStops that turn dark blue
, thinks another trainer on RedditMaybe it’s part of the new biome update
, replies another trainer on RedditI’ve been playing daily since the release and have never seen that
, says another commenter on RedditClosing times for gyms/stops have existed for many years in the game. But this new look is either new, or as some other comments here say, a bug
, also says this trainer on Reddit
It is not possible to conclusively say whether this is an error or a graphical renewal.
