Pokémon GO has surprisingly resolved a level-up issue. However, for MeinMMO author Paul Kutzner, there is a bitter aftertaste.
In October, there was the major level update in Pokémon GO. The maximum level was increased, and your level was recalculated based on your accumulated experience points. Additionally, there were some rewards that you received for your new level.
These included, depending on the level, hundreds of items that were given for free. This caused some trainers, myself included, a more or less significant luxury problem. Exactly this has now been resolved by Pokémon GO in another update. However, unfortunately for me, a bit too late.
Item bag increased, items already gone
What was the problem? Due to the high number of items given out in the update, many trainers have their capacity bursting at the seams. When I opened the game, I saw 3,302 items in my bag – with a capacity of 2,150.
At first glance, this didn’t seem like a big problem. Then I realized that I couldn’t spin item stops to maintain the 7-day streak, and simultaneously hardly received any new field research.
Moreover, from this point on, I couldn’t finish battle sets in the GO Battle League anymore. Because to finish a battle set, the rewards, which from the 2nd win in a set also include items, need to be claimed.
So I hesitated about what to do with the items. Some of you felt similarly. In the comments, some trainers not only gave good hints and tips on what I could do with the items but also wrote that I should dare to throw away the excess items. I ultimately did that.
What has changed with the new update? Surprisingly, Pokémon GO has now given in and, as they announced on X, released a small but important update. This grants trainers an additional increase in item capacity of up to 400, depending on their level.
According to a post on Reddit, the following increases apply:
| Level | additional increase in item capacity |
|---|---|
| 25 | 25 |
| 30 | 50 |
| 35 | 50 |
| 40 | 75 |
| 45 | 25 |
| 50 | 25 |
| 55 | 50 |
| 60 | 75 |
| 65 | 25 |
In my case, this results in an increase in capacity of 375. Although that still wouldn’t have been enough to keep all the items from the level update, there would have been space for a few more.
However, I will not complain too loudly. An increase in item capacity of this dimension is a very generous gift. This puts me personally at a new capacity of 2,525 items. And the items I had to throw away will also fill up again over time.
Since I like to hoard a large amount of balls and battle items, this update is, on balance, a welcome gift for me.
Balls and battle items such as revives and potions are especially useful for participating in the countless events and raids that regularly take place in Pokémon GO. What they will be in the near future, you will find out in our overview with all events in November 2025 in Pokémon GO.
