In Pokémon GO you have the chance to catch the Rocket Boss Giovanni’s Crypto-Latias for a few days now. We at MeinMMO looked at what kind of monster it is and whether it is worth catching.
What kind of Pokémon is it? In Pokémon GO you can currently meet members of Team GO Rocket more often. The reason for this is the current event “Rocket Team Outing”, which runs until April 7 at 11:59 PM.
In line with the start, bosses Arlo, Cliff, Sierra, and Giovanni have put together new teams. For this reason, you can now encounter the legendary Pokémon Latias in its corresponding Crypto form in battle against Giovanni and catch it afterwards.
But what kind of Pokémon is that and is it worth catching? We have summarized all the info for you below.
What kind of Pokémon is Latias?
Latias is a legendary Pokémon from the 3rd generation of games. Just like its counterpart Latios, it belongs to the Dragon and Psychic types. However, it has no pre-evolution or evolution.
Latias has already been found multiple times in Level 5 raids in the past. Now you can also meet it for the first time in its Crypto form with the great Rocket Boss Giovanni.
Is there a Shiny-Latias? Yes, Shiny-Latias is generally available in the game and has already been caught in the past. You can recognize it by its yellow-white body. However, in its Crypto form, it is currently not available in its shiny form.
How strong is Latias? The normal form of Latias can especially shine with a high defense value. But its attack and stamina are also solid. However, it plays a less interesting role in the PvP league (via pvpoke.com).
For use in raids, however, it is an option. It is among the top 10 Psychic attackers in Pokémon GO. However, there are also Pokémon that can perform even better, so you should prefer these in battle.
Is Crypto-Latias worth it?
Due to the Crypto form, which it will have after catching it from Giovanni, its attack value increases by 20%, but its defense also decreases simultaneously. This results in it taking damage faster in battle and not lasting as long.
Thus, this form is also unsuitable for the PvP league. Even though it can perform better in raids, it still doesn’t measure up to other Pokémon from the list of the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
Furthermore, you cannot get Crypto-Latias in its shiny form yet. So Shiny hunters will not benefit from Giovanni this time.
Should you catch Crypto-Latias? No, purely from its values and the fact that Crypto-Latias cannot be caught as Shiny, the new Pokémon from Giovanni is rather uninteresting. In addition, you only receive a single Super Rocket Radar, allowing you to defeat Giovanni only once.
So if you don’t particularly want Crypto-Latias to register it in your PokéDex, you should save your valuable Super Rocket Radar for another better legendary Crypto Pokémon in the future. Which monster will encounter you after Latias from Giovanni remains unknown for now.
How to get Crypto-Latias?
If you still want to secure a Crypto-Latias, you must first complete the new special research “Silent List”. This includes tasks around the members of Team GO Rocket as well as catching and purifying Crypto Pokémon.
As a reward on Task 4/6, you will finally receive a Super Rocket Radar. With this, you can track down the great Rocket Boss Giovanni. Once you have defeated him, you will have an encounter with Crypto-Latias.
