What kind of event is this? The Spotlight Hour is a short, 1-hour event. It takes place every Thursday and features at least one Pokémon in the spotlight, along with a bonus.
The Spotlight Hour on July 2, 2026, brings you Pidgey, the Normal-Flying Pokémon from Generation 1. It can evolve into Pidgeotto and then into Pidgeot.
Spotlight Hour on July 2, 2026 – Start and Bonuses
When does the Spotlight Hour start? The Spotlight Hour begins at 6:00 PM. After one hour, at 7:00 PM, the short event ends.
What bonus is active? If you evolve Pokémon during the event, you will receive double the amount of experience points. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Pidgey or not: the bonus applies to any evolution.
Can you catch Shiny Pidgey? Yes, a Shiny Pidgey can appear during the event. However, the chance is not increased, so you’ll need a bit of luck.
Is the Spotlight Hour worth it? If you’re looking for a strong attacker during the event, you’ll be disappointed. Neither Pidgey nor its evolutions are among the best attackers in Pokémon GO. They also play no significant role in the battle leagues.
If you’re focusing on experience points, then you can take advantage of the event. Pidgey is also very suitable for that. You only need 12 candies to evolve Pidgey into Pidgeotto. If you catch Pidgey with Raspberry, you will receive a total of 6 candies for one catch.
After catching 2 Pidgey, you can trigger an evolution, which also brings double the amount of experience points. If you activate a Lucky Egg beforehand, you’ll receive four times the amount of experience points.
