On March 18, the Community Day with Slowpoke runs in Pokémon GO. We at MeinMMO will show you everything about the bonuses, event content, and the shiny. We will also tell you how to make the best use of the day.
What event is it? Every month, there is a so-called Community Day in Pokémon GO, where a specific Pokémon is highlighted. This Pokémon will then be found more frequently in the game, and the chances of finding a shiny are increased during this time. The event is accompanied by various bonuses.
On Saturday, it’s that time again, and you can expect the Community Day with Slowpoke and its Galar form. We will show you what to expect at this event and how to make the best use of the day.
Community Day with Slowpoke in March – Start, Bonuses
When? Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time
Pokémon of the Day: Slowpoke and Galar-Slowpoke will spawn almost everywhere in the wild
Exclusive move: Surf, if you evolve Slowpoke or its Galar form into Slowbro, Galar-Slowbro, or Slaking, as well as Galar-Slaking (up to 5 hours after the event)
Bonuses:
– Incense and Lure Modules last 3 hours (except for Adventure Incense)
– Triple XP for catching Pokémon
– Double Candy for catching Pokémon
– Double chance for XL Candy when catching Pokémon (from Trainer Level 31)
– Surprise encounters from snapshots
– Event quests at PokéStops (Reward: King Stones, Stardust, Ultra Balls)
– Event stickers from PokéStops and gifts
Additional bonuses (until 10:00 PM local time)
– Additional Special Trade (maximum 2 on this day)
– 50% less Stardust cost when trading
– Timed research related to Slowpoke and Galar-Slowpoke (Reward: up to 4 King Stones)
– changed conditions when evolving Galar-Slowpoke: Instead of 30 Poison-type Pokémon, you need to catch 30 Psychic-type Pokémon on this day while Galar-Slowpoke is your buddy.
The Community Day with Slowpoke and its Galar form lasts just like the events in the previous months over 3 event hours. Only the trade bonuses, the special move, the timed research, and the altered conditions when evolving Galar-Slowpoke will still be available for 5 more hours after the event.
In-game shop content: In the in-game shop, you can also find various items again on occasion of the Community Day with Slowpoke. Here’s what to expect:
- Event ticket for the special research ‘Field Notes: Fantastically Phlegmatic’ for Slowpoke for just under 1 Euro
- New event stickers
- New avatar items (Slowpoke hat, Slowpoke rod shirt)
Bonus raid battles: If you still haven’t had enough of Slowpoke and its Galar form after the Community Day, you can battle both monsters in Level 4 raids. The raids are again only playable in-person, however, after a victory, they will bring you more Slowpoke spawns around the arena for 30 minutes. The shiny chances are just as high as on C-Day.

Who is the Community Day with Slowpoke worth it for?
Can you catch shiny Slowpoke? Yes, during the Community Day, you can catch both Slowpoke and for the first time its Galar form as shiny with a bit of luck. The chance will usually be increased on that day. To secure (Galar) Slowbro and (Galar) Slaking as shiny, you have to evolve them accordingly.
How strong is Slowpoke? Slowpoke and its evolutions Slowbro and Slaking are not particularly strong, either in their normal form or in their Galar form. They are not very suitable for use in raids and the GO Battle League.
However, Slowbro also has a temporary Mega Evolution of the types Water and Psychic, which is somewhat stronger. This could be useful for you in one or the other raid.
Who should take advantage of the C-Day? The Community Day with Slowpoke is especially suitable for shiny hunters. Particularly Galar-Slowpoke will be available for the first time in its shiny form. Normally, the Psychic Pokémon also only hatches from 7 km eggs, which is why, after the event, it will usually only be found as shiny with a fair amount of luck.
So if you want to have a complete shiny collection, you should not miss the event. Maybe you’ll also encounter a strong Slowpoke that you can evolve into Mega-Slowbro. Otherwise, you should rather focus on the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
But you should not neglect the bonuses on this day either. They are perfect for boosting your (XL) candy stock and farming plenty of experience points. You will need these on the way to level 50.

How to make the best use of the Community Day with Slowpoke
Make space: To make the most of the event, you should clear plenty of space in your Pokémon bag. Only then can you collect a lot of Slowpoke and Galar-Slowpoke and secure the candy and XP bonuses.
To sort your storage as quickly as possible, it makes sense to use the tag and filter function in the game. By entering “0*,1*,2*” you will get only monsters that have a maximum of 2 stars. To send additional monsters during the event, you can combine this search function with the input “Older0” and only Pokémon that are not older than 24 hours will be shown.
What items are important? In addition to plenty of space in the Pokémon bag, you also need the right items. You will need the following:
- Balls: If you want to catch a lot that day, you should have as many balls ready as possible. We recommend at least 200 pieces. Especially Ultra Balls are great for catching unruly specimens.
- Razz Berries: If you want to get a particularly high amount of candy, you should feed your monsters Razz Berries before catching them. This doubles the amount of candy for that catch.
- Lucky Eggs: To make even better use of the XP bonus when catching, you can set a Lucky Egg. This doubles your experience points for 30 minutes. This is also a good option in combination with leveling up your friendship level. It’s best to coordinate here with other trainers.
- Incense & Lure Modules: To attract even more specimens, you can use Incense and Lure Modules. Both last 3 hours and thus cover the entire event.
Which Mega Pokémon is needed? To secure an additional candy bonus, it is advisable if you perform a Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO. This must have the same type as the monster you want to catch. Since Slowpoke and Galar-Slowpoke both belong to the Psychic type, you should choose one of the following monsters:
- Mega-Slowbro
- Mega-Latias
- Mega-Latios
- Mega-Alakazam
- Mega-Guardvoir
- Mega-Medicham
