In Pokémon GO, the requirements for level 42 will change starting June 9, 2021. The new Eevee evolution, Sylveon, is now involved. We will show you the details and why players at level 41 have a special rule.
What’s new? Trainers who want to reach level 42 in Pokémon GO will have to complete one additional task in the future. The developers announced this on the evening of June 8, 2021, via Twitter. One of the tasks for the level-up is to evolve Eevee into all unique evolutions.
Recently, the evolution Sylveon has been added to the game. This will now expand the task. However, players at level 41 need not worry.
The new requirements for level 42
When does it apply? The changes will come into effect on June 9 at 7:00 PM. From that point on, the evolution requirement will be expanded to include the Sylveon evolution.
This is how it has been so far: Until now, you only needed to complete 7 evolutions for the task: Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Umbreon, Espeon, Leafeon, and Glaceon.
This is new: The 8th step with Sylveon is new. The other tasks remain the same. They are:
- Use items 15 times to evolve Pokémon
- Throw 3 Excellent throws
- Use 200 berries while catching Pokémon
- Gather 7.5 million XP
All tasks and rewards for levels 41 to 50 in Pokémon GO can be found here.
This does not apply to players at level 41 and above
This is the exception: Players who have already reached level 41 will continue to have the task with only 7 evolutions. Moreover, this will not be reverted for higher-level players. The developers confirmed these exceptions on their Twitter account.
Why this is important: Many players have already evolved a Sylveon at level 41 and met the buddy requirement with the 70 hearts earned. They were concerned that they would have to do that again for the research and invest a lot of time. As user Citizen51 writes on reddit (via reddit.com): “Thank God. I have nothing against the requirement, but I already evolved a Sylveon when I was 41. I don’t want to do the buddy stuff again.”
For players who evolved a Sylveon before reaching level 41, this means they will have to do it again, unless they reach level 41 by 6:59 PM on June 9.
Concerns: Some trainers fear that something might go wrong when activating the new level 42 requirement. For this reason, trainers want to quickly complete all Eevee evolutions and finish the task before the changes take effect.
Trainer mdmolitor writes on reddit (via reddit.com): “I had postponed leveling up to 42 even though I had more than enough XP because I saw no reason to do unnecessary item evolutions. But I think I’ll just do it now. I’m not sure I trust Niantic not to mess it up.”
How do you like the change? Do you think it’s good that Niantic makes an exception for level 41 players, or should nothing be changed about such tasks? Please share your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments.
In the coming weeks, several events will happen in the game. All events in June 2021 in Pokémon GO can be found here.
