From today, February 18, 2023, there are two powerful new forms in Pokémon GO. However, those without a ticket for the Hoenn Tour in Las Vegas must be patient.
What are these forms? Proto-Groudon and Proto-Kyogre are coming to Pokémon GO for the first time during the Hoenn Tour in Las Vegas.
They are obtained through “Protomorphosis,” which effectively works like Mega Evolution.
- You collect “Proto-Energy” from so-called Proto-Raids or special field researches.
- If you have enough, you can evolve Kyogre or Groudon into the Proto form.
- It lasts eight hours before the monster reverts back.
- The more often you perform the Protomorphosis, the less energy you need the next time.
How strong are the two forms? Both Proto-forms are the strongest attackers of their respective types – especially since they can also gain special moves.
- Kyogre from Proto-Raids knows the charge move “Origin Wave”.
- Groudon from Proto-Raids knows “Descent Blade”.
Additionally, they bring bonuses for your other raid attackers, similar to Mega Evolutions. Both Proto-forms boost attackers of multiple types and also give you extra candies and XP of these types when they are active.
- For Proto-Kyogre, this is Water, Electric, and Bug.
- For Proto-Groudon, these are Fire, Grass, and Ground.
However, not all of these monsters can be secured this weekend.
When will everyone get Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon?
They will come for the first time: The Proto-Raids debut during the GO Tour: Hoenn in Las Vegas. It starts on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 local time, which is 19:00 German time.
However, Niantic has already made it clear that only trainers with a ticket for the GO Tour in Las Vegas can receive the Proto bonuses for the time being.
Until the global Hoenn Tour, only trainers with a ticket for Las Vegas can:
- Receive Proto Energy rewards from Proto Raids.
- Perform Protomorphosis with Kyogre and Groudon.
- Obtain Proto Energy from research.
- Receive the exclusive moves.
When will everyone get the Proto bonuses? One week later, during the global Hoenn Tour. At the worldwide event, the two monsters will appear again in Proto Raids, then everywhere.
The global Hoenn Tour runs on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Sunday, February 26 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This time should be used to gather enough Proto Energy. Because when the monsters will return again is currently uncertain.
