Pokémon Go: A supposedly weak monster suddenly dominates the battle league, now Niantic must intervene

In Pokémon GO, a Pokémon has been banned from the battle leagues. Which one it is and why it was banned can be found out here.

Which Pokémon is it? The Pokémon that has been banned from the battle leagues in Pokémon GO is Bewear. This Normal and Fighting type Pokémon was one of the Pokémon that featured prominently during the Community Day last weekend.

If you evolved a Stufful into a Bewear during the Community Day, it could learn the charged attack Drain Punch. However, for some trainers, this move became a fast attack instead of a charged attack, turning the otherwise quite unremarkable Bewear into a destroyer of the battle league.

The first Community Day for 2024 is also already known.

What is the problem? A charged attack, as the name suggests, needs to be charged. For this, several fast attacks must be executed to gather energy for the charged attack. However, due to the bug, it was possible to use Drain Punch as a fast attack without needing to charge it.

This allowed Bewear to cause far more damage than intended. This can be impressively seen in a video on Reddit:

Niantic takes action and bans Bewear in the battle leagues

How did Niantic respond? Niantic quickly responded and promptly banned Bewear from the battle leagues. This is also necessary because any trainer with such a Pokémon would become virtually unbeatable, making the battle leagues unplayable due to this bug. It is to be expected that Niantic will change the move. How exactly this will happen is not yet known.

Besides Bewear, the black and white Kyurem are currently also banned from the battle leagues. These two legendary Pokémon were accidentally distributed as rewards.

What does the community say about this? On Reddit, there are comments joking about the bug. Finally. Drain Punch is now useful, is one of them. There is also a reference to the accidental distribution of the two Kyurems: Two major blunders within 12 hours. New record?.
