Tomorrow, the new action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released, and even though the first test results place it significantly above its predecessor, there are expected to be performance issues in certain areas. Players want to take matters into their own hands to find a solution.
What problems are expected? Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released tomorrow, on March 22, 2024, including on Steam. Early reviews have received much praise from critics, and the RPG can now be considered significantly better than its predecessor.
The PC version even achieved a dream score of 92% on Metacritic. However, some concerns about the frame rate for this very version have already been raised ahead of launch. Reports claim that it may be a bit shaky in certain areas of the game.
Capcom has already confirmed this in a statement to IGN. The developer stated that each character is assigned a large amount of CPU load. Additionally, the effects of their physical presence in various environments are calculated dynamically. Therefore, when multiple characters come together at the same time, the CPU load can be “very high”, according to Capcom. This could, of course, affect the frame rate.
How do players want to solve the problem? Players are already looking to take matters into their own hands while they wait for a fix from the developer.
In fact, their solution seems relatively simple. They are already planning the first murders of innocent, yet insignificant NPCs. And while the solution seems easy, it is also likely very extreme and drastic, as Capcom has confirmed that the death of an NPC is permanent. They can only be manually resurrected.
Players are working on a list of “insignificant NPCs”
On Reddit, some players have come together and want to collaboratively create a list of “insignificant NPCs”. This way, everyone will know exactly which NPCs can be killed without possibly missing quests and content. Some suggest simply waiting until the quests are over and then eliminating the associated NPCs.
And even though this is certainly not the intended solution by Capcom – which is already looking for solutions – many players are truly unwilling to wait and are determined to secure their frame rate.
Some users on Reddit are also questioning how far this will go. One user writes: “I can’t wait for a week to pass and someone posts the game at 60 FPS after slaughtering all the NPCs.”
How much a dead NPC can actually improve the game’s performance remains to be seen, as some players will likely test it right away tomorrow upon release.
