In WoW Classic , a player has reported that he is leveling his Dwarf Priest by controlling it with a mobile phone via Steam Link. This raises questions among players. The reactions to this WoW Mobile are mixed.
This is the clip: A clip has been circulating on reddit since yesterday, showing a Dwarf Priest steadily taking down three Gnolls. The clip lasts 1 minute and 36 seconds.
The Gnolls are defeated one after another as the Priest heals himself.
The interesting part: The Priest is apparently controlled via a mobile phone. It is not the usual control with mouse and keyboard, but a touch board that is being used.
“Personal Classic WoW Mobile”
What the player says: He claims to have created his personal “Classic WoW Mobile” and can play from about 160 kilometers away from his PC.
It runs quite well; there is hardly any input lag, and no significant difficulties arise. He thinks he could even heal a dungeon this way.
To play from such a distance is the only way for him to enjoy WoW Classic. He has so much to do that he can’t find time to sit at his PC for hours.
How did he manage that? In short:
- He installed “Steam Link” on his mobile phone
- set up a network
- added WoW to Steam as a “Non-Steam” game
- enabled the controller setting on the phone and configured WoW to fit everything – for this, he had to overcome a variety of smaller hurdles
A detailed guide with links and tricks about which settings were changed can be found here in English (via reddit).
Is that allowed? The player cannot guarantee that: He says: It may violate the terms of use of WoW, but personally, he is not interested.
“Looks like we really have phones”
Here are the reactions: On reddit, there are several reactions to this clip. The thread has nearly 1000 comments:
- Especially Warriors are envious of how easily and safely a Priest can level in WoW Classic – they have to put in much more effort. Rogues agree begrudgingly
- Some play on “Diablo Immortal” and refer to “Don’t you people have phones?” – It is said that someone at Blizzard should immediately hire the user as a spokesperson for Diablo Immortal

- Others are impressed by the performance: They say that no one would have dreamed in 2006 that you could play something like WoW on mobile.
- One warns, however: “Buddy, don’t give Blizzard any ideas.”
- And someone even says: “I respect the work, but this is really not what WoW Classic needs. A mobile adaptation is the worst way to play a normal PC game.”
