In Destiny we present all the Iron Banner weapons that have been in the game since “The Rise of Iron Lords”. Are they worth it?

The last major expansion in Bungie’s MMO shooter brought general changes to the Iron Banner (keyword: Efrideet!) and ten new weapons that you can only get during the monthly PvP event.

These Iron Banner weapons are especially sought after because they

• are only available for one week a month – and even then only two are guaranteed
• and some of them are among the best weapons in PvP.

  

How to acquire the Iron Banner weapons

There are four ways to get the weapons. The requirement is that the Iron Banner is active:

• By purchasing from Efrideet: Every month Efrideet has two of the “Iron Banner” weapons on offer with fixed perks.
• As a random drop after Iron Banner matches: The two weapons that Efrideet offers can drop after matches with random perks.
• As a reward for completing bounties: If you successfully complete Efrideet’s bounties, you will receive an immediate reward. Weapon rewards may include all Iron Banner weapons — not just the two offered by Efrideet.
• As a random reward for the quest “The Pursuit of Light”, where you need to reach ranks 1, 3, and 5 in the Iron Banner. This quest is available only once!

The Unbending Tree – Auto Rifle

Let’s start with a strong weapon forged in honor of Saladin. This auto rifle belongs to the archetype with minimal impact (2) and maximum fire rate (100). The Unbending Tree can quickly kill with body shots in PvP, has high aim assist, magazine size, and reload speed as well. However, range and stability are abysmal. Here are the stats:

With the perks, you need to focus on increasing stability, as the auto rifle is otherwise hardly controllable. Linear Frame, Perfect Balance, or Balance Compensation are the perks you want on the weapon. Field Prep and Persistence are also useful.

The Unbending Tree is an excellent substitute for all Guardians who did not get a well-rolled Doctrine of Passing in Year 2. The weapon can kill quickly, but only if you can “tame” it. Tip: Fire Focus slows down the tremendous fire rate and makes it easier to land shots on target.

In Destiny we take a look at the companion app “Ishtar Commander” for iOS and Android. What advantages does the app provide?

Recently, we introduced the “Destiny Item Manager” as an alternative to Bungie’s official companion app and pointed out the benefits that “DIM” brings. Many of our readers commented: “That’s nice and all, but nothing beats the Ishtar Commander!”

According to groovy666, the Ishtar Commander has everything you need and is, in their opinion, the best choice. marty downloaded the IC directly and can confirm: It is “really perfect – simple, clear, and practical.” Also, thepieceofsky uses the IC as it is more beautifully designed and more readily accessible than DIM. vvV AmNesiA Vvv points to the convenience of this app. For HaSechs EnZwei IC is the ultimate tool.

Let’s take a closer look at the app.

This is the Ishtar Commander

While DIM is currently only available for Google Chrome, the Ishtar Commander can be downloaded as an app on iOS and Android devices.

As a companion app to Destiny, the main function of IC is to manage items: You can easily transfer them from one character to another or to the vault on a second screen. This saves you a lot of time, as it is a laborious process in-game.

On the smartphone, you press the item (the items are sorted by weapons, armor, and inventory) and select the destination where you want to send it. Within seconds, the item is where you want it to be.

More useful features:

• Similar to DIM, this app helps you identify “Tier 12” armor pieces. With a bronze, silver, and gold indicator, you can see if the item is T12 capable. This way, you can optimize your Guardian’s armor.
• Collecting Engrams: One feature allows you to automatically bring all engrams to one character. This character can then decrypt them in-game.
• Maximize Light: Items are automatically assigned to the chosen character and equipped so they can achieve the highest possible Light level.
• Especially useful – Loadouts: You can combine weapons and armor pieces and save them, for example, as “PvP Loadout”. When you select this loadout, the Guardian is automatically equipped with the saved weapons and armor pieces. This allows you to quickly switch between your PvE and PvP gear, for example.

  

The advantages of IC

The main advantage of IC over DIM is the comfort that is important to many of our readers. People would rather quickly grab their smartphone or tablet than set up the laptop next to them and go on Chrome. IC is fast, convenient, and practical.

Moreover, many praise the app’s design. It is not cluttered, it is sensibly structured, and it does exactly what one expects from the app. Features like loadouts are welcome additions.

The Ishtar Commander is, by the way, completely available in German.

Disadvantages compared to DIM:

• The T12 display only works with three bars: If all three are filled and the gold rank is reached, the item is T12 capable. DIM provides an exact percentage display. In IC you cannot see if the armor piece has 100% of the possible values.
• Lower overview: In DIM, the inventories of all Guardians and the vault are listed side by side, so you have everything in view. On the smartphone app, you only see one Guardian’s inventory on the screen at a time. You can switch between inventories with a swipe (though there is supposed to be a landscape format on the tablet). Furthermore, each armor piece must be clicked twice for the T12 display (or you can hold down the symbol). In DIM, you see these directly.
• No display of the vendor’s offers and missing search and sort functions.

Conclusion: The Ishtar Commander is more convenient and practical than DIM, as it can be quickly and easily accessed on a smartphone. Furthermore, IC offers an appealing design. While DIM has a few more features, for many Guardians it is outside their comfort zone to fire up the laptop or PC just for that. After all, IC provides all the important functions as well.
