In Aberration, the survivors venture into the rocky underground. They must resort to new means of movement such as climbing, gliding, and zip-lining. Players of ARK Survival Evolved can expect a new gameplay experience with the expansion.
The next major expansion for ARK Survival Evolved will be Aberration. Here, players must venture into the dark underground, as the planet is contaminated. In Aberration, the sun is radioactive, destroying organic life and causing mutations in some creatures.
Survivors must seek shelter in caves – this brings new gameplay and a fresh gaming experience.
Aberration features a massive cave system: The survival strategy must be adapted
In ARK Survival Evolved, players are accustomed to vast areas. There are lakes, beaches, forests, volcanoes, deserts, and tundras. Survivors can soar high on their flying creatures or experience the cool waters and deep dives. The world of ARK radiates freedom.
This is taken away from the survivors with Aberration; they go underground. But those who think they will be stuck in a small, dark cave all the time are mistaken. In the caves of Aberration, there are also vast areas with their own vegetation.
In the caves, it can even look friendly and bright, giving a feeling of being outdoors.
Nevertheless, it is a different world, and survivors must come up with new strategies here to avoid being killed by nature, animals, and humans. New methods of movement will become particularly important here.
Climbing hooks and gliding will be particularly important
In the underground, survivors will encounter many rocky walls. One of the most important tools for movement will be grappling hooks that players can use to swing along the walls.
These new tools will be available to survivors:
- Grappling Hooks: These can be used by players to climb walls. If survivors attempt a risky jump, grappling hooks are often the last resort to prevent a fall. In the deep caves, the danger of plummeting to a certain death will be quite high.
- Gliding Suits: There will be NO flying creatures in Aberration. Instead, players can bridge longer distances with their gliding suits like flying squirrels. There will also be creatures that can glide, which players can ride.
- Zip-Lining: Survivors can set up ziplines between the walls and slide along them quickly.
In PvP, these new tools will offer interesting opportunities for attacking other tribes. Attackers can move stealthily along the dark walls and sneak up. Then, they dive down with an army of gliders and stomp the other tribe down – into the under-underworld!
The creatures in Aberration partly resemble aliens
In the standard version of ARK Survival Evolved, survivors mainly encounter dinosaurs. Creatures like the Phoenix or the Unicorn are the exceptions.
In Aberration, the monsters become true horror beasts due to the sun’s radiation and life underground.
For example, there is a gigantic queen who can impregnate players. She implants her babies in other beings, causing the survivors’ bellies to swell like in a pregnancy. When the survivor “gives birth” to the children, their torso bursts open, releasing the baby.
When Aberration will come to ARK Survival Evolved is still unknown at this time. The DLC is expected to cost $20 without a season pass.
