Larian Studios released a Community Update celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3 that shows various exciting statistics about player behavior. Alongside impressive and rare achievements, one aspect particularly shocked players. There is an ending that only about 600 players have seen.
Which ending is being referred to? Larian announced in their Community Update (on Steam) that only 598 players have reached an ending in the 2 years since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, where they adopt a child together with Wyll.
A surprisingly low number that the developers felt they had to mention in the anniversary post. Officially, fewer players have reached this particular ending with Wyll than players who managed to master the game’s most challenging mode at level 1.
A rather sobering result for the almost idyllic ending of the “Blade of Borders”.
The community is shocked, as almost no one knew that this ending even existed. According to reactions, the Warlock seems to be becoming a bit more attractive after all. Because the joint ending is now a new challenge for long-time players.

A so rare ending that it deserves its own achievement
Why have so few players heard of this ending? On Reddit, the possible ending with Wyll and an adopted child is being discussed, as many cannot comprehend how almost no one has reached this ending, let alone heard of it.
“What do you mean by being able to adopt a child with Wyll, and why have only 600 people done it?” AlexMercer28900 wonders in his Reddit post.
As it turns out, there is not the option to adopt a child in every joint ending with Wyll, which are already rare compared to romances with Shadowheart or Astarion. Wyll is relatively inconspicuous compared to the other companions in the game, and was even perceived by one player as a minor means for a joke.
To reach this mentioned ending, one must (according to insanity76s‘s instructions in the comments) not only be in a partnership with Wyll. He must also become the new Duke of Baldur’s Gate instead of traveling to Avernus with Karlach.
This means players must engage in one of the statistically least popular romances, leave Karlach to her fate, save Florrik and Wyll’s father, and break his pact. This is how SihaWood describes it in his own Reddit post, which is solely dedicated to this task. The term task is deliberately chosen here, as the rare ending with Wyll is already referred to as a “rare achievement.”
Will Wyll suddenly become more popular through this ending? Since Wyll remains unchanged according to the statistic, his romance and his entire story won’t become more exciting than they currently are in the game. However, especially long-time players like SihaWood (on Reddit) see it as another challenge for a playthrough, especially if one has already played through Baldur’s Gate 3 completely.
Tonedeafmusical writes on Reddit that she is one of the 598 players mentioned in Larian’s post. She explains what the ending with Wyll and an adopted daughter looks like: “Her name is Lily Aurora and she was found in the Open Hand Temple. She has one brown and one gray eye (like Wyll in the first act). That’s all very sweet.”
In the 2 years since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, it seems Wyll has not made it to the top of the most popular characters. Shadowheart, on the other hand, is among the top favorites, whether as a romance or as a simple team member.
