New World: The beta start date is finally known – Here’s how you can participate

The beta for the new MMO New World finally starts in July. We at MeinMMO will tell you how to sign up for the beta, what happens in it, and what will happen with the game after the release. The start date of the beta that you need to remember is July 23.

Update August 24: In the meantime, New World has not only postponed the start of the beta, but also the release of the MMO to 2021. Nevertheless, a preview event will take place on August 25 as a small substitute for the beta.

Original article from June 13:

When does the beta for New World start?

During the PC Gaming Show, Amazon announced that the closed beta for New World will start on Thursday, July 23. Originally, the beta test was supposed to start in April 2020 but was postponed along with the release of the MMO.

How can I get a beta key?

On the official website of New World, you can currently register for the beta. Whether you are in it will be communicated to you via a mail, likely similar to the alpha. Pre-orders of New World however, automatically and guaranteed participate in the closed beta.

How long will the beta last?

The beta of New World is expected to run until the release of the game on August 25.

Can the beta be streamed on Twitch?

In the announcement of the reworking of New World in December 2019, it was stated that the NDA of New World would lift with the start of the beta.

Therefore, there is nothing to prevent a stream on Twitch, YouTube, or any other platform.

New World Combat
In New World, much revolves around the fortresses that can be conquered in PvP and defended in PvE.

Beta for New World is for testing and polishing – Start on July 23

What can players expect in the beta? The beta of New World is supposed to already contain all major features that the MMO will offer at release starting July 23.

The beta, in turn, focuses on testing and polishing the existing content, as David Verfaillie, Head of Player Experience, told MeinMMO in an interview:

We release a content patch every month and introduce new content in almost every one of them. As we move towards the beta, we will increasingly focus on polishing and refining the game’s content to prepare it for release.

So, there won’t be many big features, but we will focus on final polishing and adjustments. And also on optimizing the game so it runs smoothly on PCs and is ready for the large number of players who will be entering the game.

We are also working on the scope and stability of the game.

What happens after the beta? Following the closed beta, New World is currently planned for release. After that, a roadmap is expected, and the MMO will be continuously expanded, as Verfaillie told us:

The one thing we have stated and believe 100% is that MMOs are living games. We will continue to support the game and add new content.

If you played the alpha, then you have experienced some pretty large content updates over the past months. There have been months with big and smaller updates, but we will continue to support the game.

And hopefully, we will have more details on the roadmap as we get closer to the launch on August 25.

A new feature after release could be classic dungeons and raids. This content will not be available at launch but could follow if players provide corresponding feedback. The developers already mentioned this in a dev blog.

Additionally, they revealed this week what special features crafting in New World has and why it plays such an important role.

New World revealed the great wish of the Alpha players – This will change at release

Amazon Game Studios revealed during the PC Gaming Show that New World will have its beta launch on July 23. To mark the occasion, MeinMMO editor Leya Jankowsi conducted an interview with David Verfaillie, Head of Player Experience. They talked about what the team learned during the alpha and what lies ahead.

The interview includes information about:

  • What the team learned during the alpha
  • Why more lore and quests came to New World
  • Why PvE arenas were adjusted in difficulty
  • Details on how players are chosen for a PvP war
  • Why balancing New World will be so challenging
  • The start of the beta and how you can participate
This is New World: The new open-world MMO from Amazon takes place on the fictional island “Aeternum”, located in the middle of the Atlantic. A mineral inside is said to grant immortality. The settlers fight over territory and the mineral on the island. There are 3 factions, that players can join and that fight each other. The centerpiece is fortresses that are captured, expanded, and defended in massive battles. This can occur both in PvP as well as PvE against AI. A robust character progression system offers RPG content. It is noteworthy that there are no classes in the MMO; the equipment defines the class. Additionally, there will be player housing with decorations that even grant buffs.

In the alpha, the team learned that players want more quests

What you need to know about New World is that the game was originally supposed to be a survival sandbox game. A strict forced PvP with full loot and no mercy was planned. However, during the very first alpha tests, developers realized that experienced players sought out new players as easy targets. They took pleasure in killing them and ruining the fun for others. Amazon changed New World from a sandbox survival game to an open-world MMO with additional PvE content.

Of course, I was initially curious about everything that happened during the alpha.

MeinMMO: What has changed since the alpha, what feedback have you received, what data have you collected, and what will happen before the beta launch?

David Verfaillie: “Having the alpha was extremely useful. MMOs are massive games with many interconnecting systems. Therefore, it is very difficult to foresee how everything will play out in the end. You cannot test everything; you need to let the players in. Some of the big things we discovered were larger exploits that we would never have discovered on our own. Players are extremely clever and find things that we developers could have never foreseen. For example, how to level up or get gold faster than intended. […]

Another major aspect is balancing. One thing we really love about our game is the classless progression system. By choosing your weapons and armor, you can essentially create your own class. With the weapon mastery system, you can even specialize further. With so many options, of course, it is very difficult to balance the game. The alpha was a critical factor in this process.

And the third thing we learned is what players like about our game, what they don’t like, and what they want more of. We found out that players enjoy quests and therefore delivered more and more of them at the start of the alpha. We are still an open-world MMO with […] the appropriate open-world systems like territory control, player-driven economy, and housing. But we also wanted direct content like quests. That’s why we created a story questline that introduces you to the story of the world. The various territories in the world also have such quests. We only learned this from the players and then implemented it accordingly.”

Already in February, before the global pandemic lockdowns, I visited the Amazon Game Studios in the USA. Here I had the opportunity to gain a first impression of New World and immediately noticed the tedious “fetch quests,” in which I mostly just ran back and forth. The developer explained how they adjusted the quests even during the alpha.

David Verfaillie: “We did two things [with the quests]:

  • One is that we have added more story to the quests. The quests now tell more about the island, why people are there, what the history of the island is. We spent quite some time on storytelling. That’s a big deal.
  • The second major innovation is that we create quests with long event chains. There’s a staff quest, which you need to interact with the Corrupted Breaches and close them. To get the staff, you now have to go through a long quest chain. We also have long, multi-part quests to find specific legendary items.

These were the major changes we made to the quests.”

David explained to me that there are still lore books in the world, which give experience points when collected. This is intended to incentivize players to discover the documents scattered throughout the open world.

A mysterious mineral is corrupting the world, creating breaks in the world that change nature, humanity, and animals.

Amazon had to increase difficulty as players learn quickly

Several open questions about already introduced systems were still swirling in my mind. I often read these questions on MeinMMO or in other forums discussing New World.

MeinMMO: A while ago, you published something about the Spriggan, which appears in the arena. Some people are now wondering whether the Spriggan is the only monster type in the arena or if there will be more?

David Verfaillie: “At launch, the Spriggan will be our only arena boss. However, we have a few open-world bosses, like the corrupted commander or the priest. So there are more bosses, but the only arena boss at launch will be the Spriggan. It’s a cool boss fight with multiple phases. It can heal itself and stretch its limbs to reach you. For now, that’s the only boss there, but we will definitely expand on that.”

This is what you have arenas in New World for: Players can participate in a kind of mini-raid through arenas. In these arenas, a large boss monster awaits, which poses a special challenge. There are quite good rewards from the monster. So far, only the Spriggan has been introduced, which possesses supernatural powers.

“The players out there are so much better than us at this game”

MeinMMO: It sounds pretty cool to have a world boss where you can just jump into a fight without all the fuss.

David Verfaillie: “Yes, I think the arena is a lot of fun. It makes you feel almost like a gladiator in the middle of this epic fight. We had a lot of fun fighting the Spriggan and it’s cool to watch the players learn the fight.

You asked what we learned during the alpha. One of the things I learned is that, damn, the players out there are so much better than us at this game. We adjusted the Spriggan so that it seemed very hard for us. And then there was a forum post recently about how a group of 5 max-level players defeated it in 1:30 minutes.

The players learn new tricks, find the best gear, and do some pretty incredible things. So we learn from them and will even make the Spriggan harder to maintain the challenge.”

New World Arena Spriggan Boss
The Spriggan remains the only arena boss at launch

I was interested in when players would encounter difficult boss opponents like the Spriggan. David explained that this would already be the case from level 20. So, it becomes relatively quick to advance into elite areas. Early in the game, there is already a grizzly bear that is considered one of the tough monsters. To conquer it, a group and cleverness are required. The bear belongs to one of the four enemy families in New World.

Those who want to declare war depend on the governor’s goodwill

Some features of war, meaning the massive battles, are still somewhat nebulous to me. Especially the selection of people for the war left me with a few question marks, and I know that I’m not alone in this.

MeinMMO: We know how the war works: There is a governor who selects 50 players for the PvP battle. Some people have asked how that works in detail. Will the governor always only choose his friends, or can solo players also join the fight without an invitation? Or how does it work?

David Verfaillie: “The way it works is that when war is declared, a war station appears in the town. And anyone who belongs to the corresponding attacking or defending faction can sign up to be either an attacker or a defender. So anyone can sign up who belongs to the appropriate faction.

Then the governor receives the list of all registered players and can select who he wants to help defend. I think governors are interested in maintaining control. Therefore, I think it is in their interest to choose players who they believe can best help in defense or attack. They will often choose people they know or high-level players.

Players who want to join but are not part of that can start their own company and declare war. Anyone can do that. And then they have control over who gets to choose and who goes to war.”

During the PC Gaming Show, Amazon showcased a new trailer for New World, providing a deeper insight into the combat.

In PvE wars, chance decides who goes into battle

MeinMMO: Now I have to imagine the player who is never chosen saying: “I will now start my own company and then I will attack you!”

David Verfaillie: “That’s pretty much what we hope for. In New World, in an open-world MMO, we want to have that kind of gameplay, and instead of creating many different roles, we give players the tools to determine their own fate. So declare your own war and choose your own team.

The other thing I want to mention is the invasions. I think you have seen them in the game. It’s the PvE version of the war where the Corrupted send their army against the players.

This is an opportunity for everyone to participate. The defending governor can select 10 people for the army, but the remaining 40 players will be randomly chosen from all who sign up. It’s a good way for players to get into the war. It’s somewhat less stressful because it’s against AI. So, it’s an opportunity for everyone to get in, play with siege weapons, and see what it’s like to defend a castle.”

MeinMMO: Let’s say there’s a group of people who have now started their own company. They are still at a low level. Now anyone can declare war. What happens when there’s a company that is already large and has good players declares war on a small company that is not very advanced? How does it work from a balance perspective? Is that even possible?

David Verfaillie: “Currently, there are no restrictions in that regard. So anyone can declare war on anyone. What we have implemented, however, is that when you control an area, you must set a time window, thus a war period. This is the period during which other companies can attack you.

The reason for this is that we do not want offline raiding, which exists in other games, and we want it to be a fair fight. So a time is set and that’s it. If you are a defending company controlling multiple areas, you may only set one time window.

This means that the more you spread out, the fewer people from your own circle of friends you can use for each war if you are being attacked in multiple places at the same time. We wanted to mimic real wars where: The more you spread out, the more borders you have to defend and the more dangerous it becomes for you.

And as we have experienced in history, if you try to grow too big too quickly, you usually fall apart again.”

Achieving the perfect balance at launch won’t happen

  • PvE wars, PvP massive battles, boss arenas.
  • Building economy and cities. Gaining land.
  • A comprehensive progression system with weapons as classes, attributes, consumables that grant buffs.
  • Open world with hidden lore and “Points of Interest”.

New World contains a lot now. I began to wonder how players should learn all of this. Turns out, the progress of your character is closely tied to the design of your equipment.

MeinMMO: We talked about progress, and I remember that you wanted to introduce players slowly to new features. What does that look like?

David Verfaillie: “It starts very early in the game. The gearing and progression part of MMOs is such an essential part of the games. It’s one of the things that players love so much. They see the steady progress of their characters. Therefore, our gear progression starts very early and includes many different elements.

One of the more important elements is what we call “perks.” These are random attributes that can be rolled for the equipment, and you can have up to three of them. Low-level armor will have no perks or only one perk, while later in the game, players get the opportunity to receive more and stronger perks. But we introduce the system to players early on. The perks are a way to specialize and enhance your gear.

Another system that we use and that is quite new is socketing gemstones in weapons and armor. When you have equipment with sockets, you can pull it out and mine gemstones. And there’s a crafting tree for gemstones with skills that allow you to refine the stones and add them to your equipment.

This allows you to make weapons and armor even stronger by adding various attribute bonuses. This starts quite early in the game. You can also craft gemstones at a low level, and they will level up just like the weapons do.”

New World weapons skills
The progress in New World has become increasingly complex over time, and more mechanics have been added.

MeinMMO: It sounds like a paradise for people who like to experiment with their builds, but also like a balancing hell considering all the various mechanics and elements of the game. With different weapons, with gemstones, with bonuses from consumables, and so on. How can you maintain balance there?

David Verfaillie: “It’s extremely difficult to keep this game balanced correctly. As you said, there are tons of flexible components in the system. We have the armor, we have weapon mastery, we have all the consumables like food and potions, and it’s a system without classes. This means players can choose their own combinations, and the possibilities are nearly endless. So it’s very challenging to keep balance within the game.

What we’ve done is let the alpha run for about 18 weeks now. We receive new data every week and continuously adjust it to the desired balance. I wish I could promise that we’ll achieve perfect balance at launch, but that won’t happen. It will be good, and the gameplay will be fun, but I think we’ll always be committed to continually adjusting it.”

MeinMMO: Finally, a question that might induce a chuckle. Do you remember an exploit from the alpha that was really surprising and funny?

David Verfaillie: “Okay, this might not be super funny, but it’s one of those things nobody expected. In our game, you can send money to other players. So if you have a friend who just started and you want to give him some gold, you can do that. One of the players discovered an exploit. If you sent someone a negative amount of gold, the number overflowed, and they received 800 billion or so.

Fortunately, we raised the alarm immediately when this happened, but during the alpha, there were still some people who were very wealthy for a while.”

MeinMMO: That would have been madness for the economy. Thank you for the interview and your time. We’ll see each other again at the latest in the beta.

David Verfaillie: “It was a pleasure talking to you, Leya.”

Note: The interview has been slightly shortened. Parts of the conversation have been allocated to a MeinMMO news article about the beta launch. You can read about the goals of New World’s beta there:

New World: Beta start date is known – here’s how to participate

Beta start date is known

At the PC Gaming Show, the date for the closed beta was announced. To mark the occasion, MeinMMO conducted the interview with David Verfaillie.

When does the beta start? On Thursday, July 23.

Who can participate? On the official New World website, you can register for the beta. Pre-order customers of New World will automatically take part in the closed beta.

The launch will be bumpy, but New World has great potential

New World has been a new open-world MMO from the West for a long time. A large influx of players is to be expected. Experienced MMO players know that there will be technical problems. Server capacities often reach their limits.
In addition, New World is expected to be huge in its systems. Balancing PvE and PvP, the many random possibilities in the equipment, the nearly endless options for developing weapons as classes – this will still be unbalanced at the beginning.

However, this is where the great potential of New World lies. Especially players who love to tinker with their build and create their perfect equipment will have a lot of joy here. Because the MMO invites you to experiment – just like to discover the open world. There is no other game I’m more excited about in 2020 than New World.

The creator of DayZ announces a new game Icarus – This is what makes it so interesting

At the PC Gaming Show, Dean Hall, the creator of DayZ, announced a new survival game. Icarus takes place in a space setting and occurs in short sessions.

What is Icarus? In Icarus, you descend from a space station to planets to complete missions. The special thing about this is that these missions must be completed within a certain time frame.

These sessions can last only 10 minutes, but also up to 48 hours of actual gameplay. You can complete them alone or with friends. Hall compared the group formation system to GTA Online before a heist.

In addition to the time pressure, the usual survival elements like oxygen, food, and the hostile environment play a role. Unlike in DayZ, however, you can be revived by other players if you should die from lack of oxygen or due to combat.

Only when time runs out is your session definitely lost.

A first teaser for the new survival game Icarus

How does the game play out? PC Gamer compares Icarus to Escape from Tarkov: You go in, do what you need to do, and then leave again (via PC Gamer).

With the gathered resources, you can upgrade your spaceship, the landing craft, and ground vehicles, research new technologies, and build futuristic weapons.

According to Hall, the game is meant to be exciting primarily because of the time pressure. If you don’t make it back to the drop ship in time, your character is defeated, and all progress with that character is lost.

Icarus Chopping Wood
While you are on a mission, you can build a temporary base. But soon you will have to leave the planet again.

When will Icarus be released? The release of the game is currently scheduled for 2021. There is no exact date yet.

Remnant sends you to the planet of rats in the new giant DLC

The cooperative shooter Remnant: From the Ashes was the big surprise success in the summer of 2019. After the first DLC was well received, the developers want to repeat their success in 2020 with the 2nd DLC “Subject 2923”. To do this, they have developed a complete mini-campaign along with a new planet and other enemies.

Remnant: From the Ashes was the surprise hit in the summer of 2019 on Steam. The game quickly gathered nearly 50,000 players as a peak. In the following months, the player count declined again, but with the new DLC “Swamps of Corsus” in April, the player numbers rose significantly again.

Especially the new rogue-like survival mode was well received there and excited MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus even beforehand – and that, even though he doesn’t even like rogue-like games!

On Steam, Remnant rightly sits at 84% positive reviews.

However, the developers do not want to be satisfied with that. Instead, they are planning a repetition of their success with the 2nd DLC for 2020. But what is included in the new DLC and what do the developers have to say about the game’s previous successes?

Remnant From the Ashes new header
Tough co-op battles against disgusting monsters – that’s Remnant!

Remnant: From the Ashes – Everything in the game and the update DLCs

What does Remnant offer? Remnant is a cooperative shooter where you face off against grotesque plant monsters in randomly generated levels. This “Seed” (English “Root”) has taken over the Earth. The last humans live hidden and only risk dangerous forays out of their shelters.

Throughout the game, you blast and hack your way through various monsters together with up to two other players and really tough bosses. They are truly difficult to defeat and thus, Remnant is often compared to hardcore games like Dark Souls.

Anyone wanting to achieve something in Remnant: From the Ashes must bring skill and frustration tolerance.

This is how Remnant evolved: After its release in August 2019, a large patch soon followed in September with the highly anticipated “Adventure Mode”. In this mode, you could revisit the already known locations and wreak havoc in randomly generated levels.

In October, there was again a larger update that further increased the already hefty difficulty level. Because with the “Hardcore Mode,” permadeath was also introduced to the game. If you die in this mode, you lose everything!

This is what was included in the first major DLC in 2020: The developers will add even more in April 2020, when the large DLC “Swamps of Corsus” is released. It contains these features:

  • New gear and abilities
  • A new planet full of swamps and the “elves” living there, bizarrely merged with insects, posing a new threat.
  • A new game mode called Survival

This is what awaits you in the current DLC for Remnant.

Especially the last mode is well received by players, and this even surprises the developers. In an interview with MeinMMO, design director John Pearl revealed that they did not expect such great popularity for the new mode:

To be honest, [our biggest surprise] was that people received the survival mode so enthusiastically. They really got into it. I mean, we knew that it would be a fun new mode. But when you release a game and then 8 months later you release a completely new mode, you don’t know how the players will react.

It could be that people say: “I already finished the game, I won’t play this anymore.” But people really took the bait, that was great!

However, things did not go so well: However, there were also problems with the latest DLC. Because the new story with the swamp elves was not clearly written and was rather hidden for many players. You have to start the adventure mode to access it and cannot play it as a regular campaign.

The developers want to improve this in the upcoming DLC “Subject 2923”.

Subject 2923 – How Remnant aims to repeat its big success in 2020

When will the 2nd DLC come? Subject 2923 will be the second major DLC for Remnant. It is set to release, despite all adversities, on August 20, 2020. According to our interviewee John Pearl, this date should still hold, as the developer company Gunfire Games is a small studio and was therefore able to switch to home office effectively and quickly. A strong internet infrastructure in the region also played a major role.

remnant - subject 2923 - 01
Fat rats are part of the deal here.

What’s the name about? When the name “Subject 2923” comes up in the interview, I, Jürgen Horn from MeinMMO, ask in surprise what it means. John Pearl just laughs and gives a cryptic answer:

Yes, it’s actually a reference to something that is already in the game. Our lore fans from the community will surely start piecing together the clues. We wanted to create a mystery, and when players play it, they will hopefully understand it, and it will make sense. This was even present in the prequel, Chronos.

As I said, lore fans will pick up on this immediately, and I look forward to the speculation about what it exactly means.

Killer Rats and Killer Pumpkins – What’s in the new DLC for Remnant

What is the new DLC about? In Subject 2923, the main goal is to finish the story of Remnant. The storyline of the DLC starts about a year after the end of the main campaign. The “Seed” is significantly weakened but not completely gone. There remains a last anchor that binds the monster plants to the Earth. Therefore, players search for answers in remote, rural areas.

Here you can see the rats and new settings in the video.

In a preview video, I can see a spooky farm where horrific new seed creatures are wandering around. They strongly resemble the pumpkin monsters popular at Halloween. But according to developer John Pearl, that was pure coincidence; they simply wanted to create a spooky horror look.

Later, it goes into an underground military facility where even more horrifying seed monsters roam. This is the second scenario of the DLC, the base that likely houses one last gruesome secret of the seed.

This is what the rats look like: But the last video shown to me presents a completely different scenery. Instead of the familiar areas of Earth and the seed creatures, I see an icy snowy landscape filled with rickety shanties. Humanoid rats scurry around, wielding crossbows and spears.

It almost seems as if I’m suddenly seeing a post-apocalyptic version of the Warhammer Fantasy game Vermintide. In this game, the rat-like Skaven are the major opponents. The rats here in the video look almost exactly the same.

remnant - subject 2923 - 02
Even flying rat creatures are involved.

This harsh break – first creepy plant monsters and old military facilities, then suddenly an excursion to winter rat land – seems strange to me, and I immediately ask John Pearl what this is about:

They are a race of large, humanoid rats. They are the Urikki. And that’s where you go in the new DLC, the planet Reisum. That’s where these giant rats live. They are somewhat Viking-like in how they fight and the kind of buildings they live in. They will surely be a good addition to the Remnant world.

The rats and their world are somehow connected to the seed and its presence on Earth. But why do the developers choose rat beings as the new antagonists? John Pearl has a nice anecdote about that as well:

Humanoid giant rats have something. You mentioned the Skaven from Warhammer earlier. They were at least subconsciously our inspiration. And there was actually an old piece of artwork from the early development phase. It featured a humanoid giant walking down the street, surrounded by man-sized rats. It was kind of iconic for the game, we just had to pick that up again.

remnant - subject 2923 - 03
Some of the rats will be real big.

The further content of Subject 2923

What else is new? The new DLC therefore offers three new scenarios, one of which, the large rat planet Reisum, represents a completely new biome. According to the developers, this DLC is not just an update but a complete mini-campaign.

It also contains a massive amount of additional content in the DLC. This includes:

  • New enemies
  • New bosses
  • New traits
  • New items and equipment
  • New weapons and armors

So anyone enjoying Remnant should get even more reasons to keep playing the game with the new DLC. The developers are clearly focusing on more of what made the game great in 2019: wacky, creepy settings, intense fights, and brutal boss fights.

How to get into the new story? According to the developers, you don’t have to finish the old campaign first if you want to play the new story from the DLC. As a buyer of the DLC, you can jump straight into Subject 2923. This is convenient and useful for newcomers, even if, according to John Pearl, it doesn’t make sense from a story standpoint.

remnant - subject 2923 - 04
Magical rats are also involved.

Are there new modes in the DLC? There will be no new modes, such as a PvP mode, in the foreseeable future. Survival remains the only new mode for now. Especially regarding PvP, the developers are clear that it would require too much balancing effort and that Remnant is simply designed as a co-op game.

However, you can replay the new areas, like the rat planet Reisum, the military base, and the creepy outskirts, as often as you like in adventure mode. Even in the popular survival mode, the new content will be present. So anyone who prefers to fight rats rather than plants and swamp elves will soon have that opportunity.

Is it worth getting into Remnant again in 2020?

Remnant: From the Ashes scored particularly well with its fun co-op mode, enjoyable gunplay, and RPG elements with classes and traits. The tough boss fights and the hunt for better gear motivated thousands of players at the time and became even more intense in survival and hardcore mode.

The new DLC Subject 2923 picks up exactly at this point. It does not bring fundamental innovations like another game mode. But it complements the already strong mix with a complete “mini-campaign” containing new worlds, enemies, and tons of new items to collect.

So anyone looking for a challenging co-op shooter that shines with a unique atmosphere and bizarre enemies can confidently jump in here. The same goes for players who have already completed Remnant and have not been active since then. It’s also worth coming back for you, especially since the story finally finds its end and you may finally be able to drive away the seed.

Strengths and weaknesses of Remnant: From the Ashes

Pro
  • Creepy atmosphere
  • Fun gunplay
  • Bizarre monsters, from plants to swamp elves to killer rats
  • Brutal boss fights
  • Very fun in co-op with two friends
  • Alternative hardcore and survival modes
Contra
  • Possibly too difficult for casual gamers
  • Solo significantly more boring than in a team
  • Much grind and repetition – not everyone’s taste

Hit potential (Promising expansion)

The cooperative shooter Remnant: From the Ashes impressed me even in an early beta at GamesCom 2018. The tough boss fights and the shooting against the bizarre monsters are clear unique selling points of the shooter and are rightly praised by very positive Steam reviews.

Therefore, it fits very well that Remnant does not try to reinvent itself but remains true to the core elements of its success. Therefore, we are now getting more of what everyone already likes. I find the new world with the rats especially promising. Because it will not only be featured in the campaign that can eventually be completed but also serve as a permanent occupation in adventure or hardcore mode.

An alternative for players waiting for Diablo 4?

What is Torchlight 3? Torchlight 3 is an action RPG and plays similarly to Diablo, even though the graphics are very cartoonish:

  • You choose a hero
  • explore the game world with them
  • follow the story through different acts
  • and loot and level up to your heart’s content.

Originally, it was supposed to come out as Torchlight Frontiers and have more MMO elements. In early 2020, however, it was announced that the game would return to its roots.

The MMO elements were scaled back, allowing players to recruit companions for missions in towns. Additionally, the character progression was adjusted to be linear again, like in the previous Torchlight and Torchlight 2.

Torchlight 3 Fort 1
Forts are expected to play an important role in Torchlight 3.

What is special about the game? One highlight of Torchlight 3, mentioned in the PC Gaming Show, are the forts that you can design yourself and visit each other.

Also, the quirky classes like the Railmaster are a unique selling point.

Streamer is wrongly banned by Twitch, criticizes new nudity rule

The streamer Forkgirl lost her channel on Twitch a week ago. At first, she thought a copyright violation was the reason, but now she knows she received a ban for nudity. She does not want to accept this. She criticizes a new naked rule for body painting. The clause is far too vague.

This is what the streamer does on Twitch: The streamer Forkgirl is a body painter. She goes topless, applies a base that covers her breasts, turns on the camera, and paints her upper body to look like a famous character from pop culture, such as a heroine from the action MOBA Smite or a character from the shooter Valorant.

During her streams, which sometimes last 10 or 12 hours, she has an average of about 100 to 150 viewers.

Twitch Forkgirl Viper Valorant
This is Forkgirl as a character from Valorant.

This is her history with bans: As a body painter, the streamer has frequently come into conflict with the rules on Twitch:

Smite-Forkgirl
Forkgirl was banned in February 2020 for this outfit from the game Smite.

This is why the streamer was banned: Last week, Forkgirl complained that Twitch had deleted her channel without comment. In the meantime, she thought she had been the victim of copyright strikes sent out by Twitch in the last week because music that was copyrighted could be heard in old Twitch clips.

However, she now has certainty: Twitch did indeed ban her because of her body painting.

The streamer is incredibly upset about this.

She says this ban was unjustified. Although Twitch updated the rules for body painting, they subsequently inserted a completely vague clause to ultimately ban any body painter they want (via twitter).

More on the topic
Twitch bans body painter: “I am afraid. This is my full-time job.”
von Schuhmann

When body painters stop painting, they can be banned

This is the clause in question: Twitch has indeed added a clause regarding “body art.” It now states that the exception rules for body art only apply as long as the artist is actively performing the body art (via twitch)

Artists are only allowed “temporary interruptions” and only during active painting sessions or to model the final result.

This means: As soon as Twitch thinks a body painter is doing many things besides painting, the normal nudity rules apply, and Twitch can ban the body painter if, for example, the lower part of the breast is visible.

Streamer accuses Twitch of arbitrariness and injustice

The streamer says: They have always followed the rules. She has merely stopped painting to do normal streamer things:

  • She greeted guests
  • Showed her previous work
  • Held giveaways
  • Bit into a bagel or ate a few grapes
  • Did similar things that one does during a 12-hour stream

According to the streamer, Twitch is using the new clause to issue “false and inconsistent bans.” As a body painter, one has asked for clear rules without gray areas; Twitch provided those, but then inserted “this thing” so they can ban body painters at any time.

The streamer says the ban is devastating for her. Her channel has been taken from her unjustly. Again.

She is so sad and disappointed and does not understand why this keeps happening to her.

Twitch Swebliss Ban Outfit
This streamer also had troubles with the nudity rules.

Not only body painters have trouble with the clothing rules on Twitch. The streamer Emma “Swebliss” Bliss also had issues with Twitch regarding the rules.

She said she would be banned for wearing outfits that are completely normal and with which other women can appear without any consequences.

Destiny 2 makes Xur relevant again – This has changed

In Destiny 2, Xur was revamped at the start of Season 11. He now sells Exotics with random stats. This makes the NPC vendor interesting again.

What has changed? On June 9, the Season 11 in Destiny 2 was launched. It brought new story, new PvE activities, a dungeon, and new weapons and armor.

Additionally, the update included a change to Xur, allowing the vendor to sell Exotics with a random distribution of stats and affinities.

Previously, he only offered armor from the collections, which always had fixed stat distributions. Many veterans also already own these items.

Moreover, it is now possible to acquire a second exotic engram, provided you bring Xur the new item “Exotic Code”, which you can find in the season pass.

Destiny Xur Title
On MeinMMO, we reveal every week where Xur is located and what the vendor has in stock.

Why is this interesting? Xur was a popular vendor in Destiny 1 because he had many exciting items available. However, he lost relevance over time, especially in Destiny 2.

The latest update could finally make the vendor interesting again, making the search for and discovery of Xur worthwhile.

Interesting Offers from Day 1

What does Xur offer? From June 12 to 16, you can currently get Synthoceps from Xur, armored gloves for Titans with a total of 62 stats.

The special feature of this item is the 20 recovery. While the remaining values for the melee armor are only mediocre, overall this Exotic is more interesting than the previous items from Xur.

You can find the complete offer from Xur in our current overview.

What’s next for Destiny 2? A roadmap has outlined the plans for the progression of Season 11. This will run until autumn 2020. You can look forward to new exotic quests, triumph moments, and the Solstice of Heroes.

In autumn, the new expansion “Beyond Light” will be released. In the announcement, Bungie also spoke about the development of Destiny 2 until 2022.

WoW: The new flight paths in Shadowlands have a cool trick

Flight paths in World of Warcraft Shadowlands are quite strange. They remind of space travel and are really well done.

In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands we find ourselves in the realms of the dead. Much of it does not work as we are used to from Azeroth or Draenor – this applies to the flight paths as well. Those traveling from the capital Oribos to one of the four zones are presented with an unusual sight.

What is there to see? Anyone wanting to travel from Oribos to one of the areas must click on one of the large portals in the capital. After that, they automatically mount a flying mount and fly a few hundred meters out of Oribos, heading towards another portal. So far, so familiar.

As soon as they arrive at the portal, the mount accelerates and the game environment changes. At a rapid speed, the character rushes through a magical tunnel following an Anima flow to the desired area.

The most beautiful flight path in all of WoW: Shadowlands. from r/wow

Visually, it somewhat resembles traveling at light speed or the mass portals from Mass Effect.

Why are the flight paths like this? The reason for these “veiled” flight paths is mainly a representational trick. The different areas of Shadowlands lie “on the same continent,” so no loading screen is necessary. At the same time, the areas are not close to each other story-wise, meaning you cannot just “fly over” from Bastion to Ardenweald . Therefore, Blizzard uses this little sequence as a distraction while the flight mount dramatically accelerates to cover the distance.

WoW Flight Path dark
The journey through the “between world” is accompanied by a long effect – the benefit is clear.

While many players find the effect quite cool, others fear that the effect will wear off quickly and become rather annoying. However, Blizzard could further increase the speed of the mount, which would reduce the duration in these “Anima tunnels”.

Are all flight paths in Shadowlands like this? No. Travel within an area, such as from one flight point in Ardenweald to another in Ardenweald, still takes place in a conventional manner. Here, you can enjoy the surroundings and view while a gryphon (or other mount) takes you to your destination.

What do you think of these new flight paths? Cool and fitting for Shadowlands? Or rather annoying?

Pokémon GO disables battle league because players cheated to the top

In Pokémon GO the battle league has been temporarily disabled. The reason is an exploit that allegedly allowed players to execute charge attacks much faster.

What exactly happened? On June 13, Niantic announced that the GO Battle League would be disabled until further notice. A severe exploit was cited as the reason.

The developers emphasize in an official statement that knowledge and skills in the GO Battle League should determine victory and defeat, not cheating by players:

As a team, we believe there is a “social contract” in the GO Battle League: You should always feel that your knowledge and skills determine the outcome of your battles. Cheating directly undermines this social contract, and we cannot tolerate that.

Due to this zero-tolerance policy and the current situation, we have disabled the GO Battle League.

Official Statement from Niantic

If you want to succeed in the PvP league without exploits, we at MeinMMO have compiled 10 tips for the battle league.

Exploit allegedly allows faster charge attacks

What exactly is the problem? On Twitter, user @PoGoKieng posted a video where he faced player JesusG1310. His opponent was able to execute multiple charge attacks with the Pokémon Melmetal in no time.

This allegedly involves an exploit where quick attacks can be performed while the charge attack is still being executed (via Pokémon GO Hub).

How exactly the error occurs is still unknown.

What is actually going on with Destiny 3? This is what Bungie says

Destiny 2 is set to continue for years to come – at least until 2022. But what is the general status of a Destiny 3? Bungie has made quite specific statements about this.

Bungie releases future plans for Destiny 2: On June 9, Bungie dropped the bombshell. The studio not only introduced the new Season 11 for Destiny 2, but also announced the next major autumn expansion Beyond Light, including plans until autumn 2022.

Until then, there will be 3 major expansions, one per year:

  • This autumn, Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be released.
  • In 2021, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will be released.
  • In 2022, Destiny 2: Lightfall is planned.

Bungie commits to Destiny 2 for years to come, providing new content through expansions and seasons. Bungie aims to deliver the best action MMO experience in the world with Destiny 2.

These are the plans until 2022

What about Destiny 3? Many Guardians have been wondering – what is the current status of a possible Destiny 3? Because potential plans for a third installment are now off the table at least until 2023. But what does the foreseeable future hold for Destiny 3?

Bungie has now also spoken plainly on this matter. Destiny Franchise Director Luke Smith spoke during a Q&A session with the well-known streamer Dr. Lupo after the reveal stream on June 9.

When asked if there will ever be a Destiny 3, he replied: “We are not planning to make it. We firmly believe… we want to build the future of Destiny within Destiny 2. That is the way forward.”

In the corresponding article about the reveal, “Building a Sustainable Future for Destiny 2” on Bungie.net, it was stated, among other things:

“We have left behind all of the content from Destiny 1 and many of the features that players have grown fond of. We now believe that it was a mistake to create a situation that fractured the community and reset player progress and experience, from which we had to recover and repair for a whole year. It is a mistake we do not want to repeat by creating a Destiny 3.”

So it is quite clear: There will probably not be a Destiny 3, at least not in the foreseeable future.

This is the new Destiny: Destiny 2 will now be continued as an action MMO for years and fed with new content. However, content from the first Destiny will also flow into Destiny 2 through the Destiny Content Vault and is intended to make the game essentially THE Destiny experience.

A great Destiny 2 for everyone

Bungie is thus repositioning Destiny 2 and fulfilling the wishes of many players – namely, a large Destiny game that will be continued and expanded over a long time. And no Destiny 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Will Destiny 2 be renamed Destiny? For this realignment, some players hope that the name of the game will also be adjusted to the new experience. That Destiny 2 will now become Destiny. But what about a possible name change?

This is exactly what the gaming site Polygon wanted to know from Bungie on this occasion and asked them in the course of an interview. And Bungie says the 2 will remain.

The 2 in the title will not be removed from Destiny, at least for now

Luke Smith also spoke on this and explained: “Right now we are focusing our work on the game itself. There are a lot of gears that would be affected by a name change… That would be a lot of work.”

He also noted that “There are a lot of successful games that have a 2 in their title – one of my favorites, DOTA 2, comes to mind right away.”

So Destiny will not shed the 2 for the foreseeable future. But no matter what the game ends up being called – the future of Destiny looks exciting and, at first glance, quite promising. Why the new pet rat in ESO is not only cute but also useful

The Elder Scrolls Online is known for its pets that serve no purpose but are lovingly designed and do funny things when left alone. However, there is now a pet that costs about 10 euros but is worthwhile for players with many twinks.

What pet is it? Those currently looking at the Crown Store of ESO should quickly notice the offer for a rat for 1,200 crowns (about 10 euros). The “Gramfeste-Packratte” is a “rat of exceptional size”. Furthermore, someone has equipped the cute critter with a carefully fitted harness complete with bags and pockets. On its back, the rat even carries a neatly stowed scroll.

eso ratte und katze
Even Khajiit have no problem with useful rodents.

Pet with benefits for all heroes

What does the rat bring? Buying the rat gives you a cute little creature that follows you obediently and sniffs around curiously. Occasionally, the rodent also curls up and dozes a bit. However, the real benefit of the rat is that the bags and pockets are not just for show.

The little critter actually expands your inventory by 5 slots. Due to a bug, this is not displayed in the description, but the effect is definitely there and also clearly intended, as community manager Kai Schober recently told us in a livestream.

Do I have to put my stuff in the rat? No, the expansion of your inventory happens automatically. You don’t even have to actively have the rat with you. It “carries” your stuff even if you have another pet, such as the useful Khajiit merchants, active.

In the past, there was already such an inventory pet, the loyal pack pig, which you can still buy. If you have the pig and the rat, you get a total of 10 inventory slots!

eso-alfiq-khajiit-titel-01
Only merchant pets like this Khajiit are similarly useful as pack pets.

For whom is this creature particularly worthwhile? Inventory slots in ESO are highly coveted and can only be obtained in the game through a lot of gold, which requires grinding. In the cash shop, there is an upgrade with 10 inventory slots for about 8.70 euros.

The rat (and the pig) cost 1,200 crowns each, about 10 euros, but their bonuses apply to ALL of your characters. So if you have at least one twink that you use regularly, you will benefit from the rat. Those who use more twinks will benefit even more from the rodent.

Community has longed for the rat pet for a long time

Where does the idea of the pack rat come from? Eager players of Elder Scrolls games know of pack rats from the original game Morrowind and its expansion Tribunal. Such rats were already in use there to carry your stuff.

Furthermore, the rats were so well trained that they could even use scrolls that you had packed for them. Unfortunately, their cousins in ESO cannot do that.

Has the rat ever existed before? Until now, the rat has only been a rumor. However, there have been leaks and pictures of it circulating in the community. Additionally, you could admire a pack rat as an NPC on a desk, but unfortunately, you couldn’t take it with you. Now that the creature is finally available for purchase, players are happy, and some have already invested money in the rat:

  • Kid-With-Knife: “This +5 capacity for all my characters is worth the price for this little guy. Getting a furry little buddy as a bonus is just a treat.”
  • Bigluce: “I would love to have this rat as a pet. The Daedra rat is ugly, and the Jerboa is super cute but oh so tiny.”
  • The_Bone_Rat: “Rats are lovable, intelligent, and affectionate pets. Their only drawback is that they have such a short lifespan. With this rat pet, I can have one without having to worry about its lifespan.”

Rat lovers seem to be very happy about a useful, cute, and immortal rat that carries their stuff in the game. ESO already has a whole range of cool creatures that follow you. The craziest pet you can have is a soulless stone that just does what stones do!

Sony’s CEO explains what goals the design of the PS5 aims for

Meanwhile, the design of the PS5 is known. Now, Sony’s CEO and President Jim Ryan has commented on the design. He believes that the presented design has achieved its goal.

Where does the information come from? After users had previously discussed the PS5 design, Sony’s CEO and President Jim Ryan spoke in an interview with CNET. The online magazine asked him what he thinks about the new design of the PS5.

And Ryan explains that the goal of the design was to beautify the living spaces. He says:

The PlayStation is located in the living areas of most homes, and we thought it would be nice to offer a design that would really enhance most living spaces. That is what we tried to do. And, you know, we believe we have succeeded.

Jim Ryan, CEO and President of Sony; Source: Cnet.com

Many users were particularly surprised by the white design at the reveal, which is completely different from the PlayStation 4. Even with the PS5 controller, fans have wondered how the DualSense controller might look in black.

Ryan on PS5 Design: “Almost Bold and Daring”

They are also aware at Sony that the design of the PlayStation 5 is almost bold and daring.

But Sony wanted to show the world and the players that not only the inside of the console is striking, but also its outside. He says: “We wanted something that points forward and into the future, something for the 2020s.”

What else did Ryan say? Ryan also commented on the Digital Edition. He explained in the interview that Sony has recognized that many players now primarily buy and play their games digitally:

People increasingly prefer, as they do with their music and videos, digitalization, and we want to acknowledge that.

WoW with PS4 controller – How well it works in Shadowlands

With Shadowlands, World of Warcraft officially supports gamepads. But is it really fun? Cortyn took a look at it.

It has been known for some time that World of Warcraft, with Shadowlands, aims to bring support for gamepads and controllers. However, this is not due to the much-desired console implementation (which is still denied), but to provide easier access to players with disabilities who rely on gamepads.

Since the last patch of the alpha, controller support now seems to be fully included. I thought it was time for me, Cortyn from MeinMMO, to take a closer look at the controller support.

All beginnings are difficult: I must honestly say, I didn’t really want to write the article. This was because the detection of my PS4 controller didn’t work. It worked perfectly in games like NieR: Automata, but World of Warcraft simply didn’t recognize it. After 30 frustrating minutes of Googling, I simply switched the USB port of my PS4 controller – and for inexplicable reasons it worked then.

Once recognized, it was no longer a problem. WoW already has a solid set of base settings in the key mappings, which can be changed as desired. Once the controller was recognized, the new settings were automatically applied.

WoW Gamepad Controls
The controller settings are automatically adjusted – even if still for an Xbox gamepad. It works anyway.

WoW with Controller – Good, but only in some situations

What works well? Battles work surprisingly well. It’s easy to maneuver a warrior or demon hunter to the right position and target enemies. The control works really well in melee, and within minutes one has already figured out how to control the camera perfectly with one stick while the other moves the character. You jump with X, and select enemies with the directional keys. It’s intuitive, but there’s little that can go wrong.

Even though this is again a little diss towards demon hunters – the fewer abilities a class requires, the easier it is to play with the gamepad. Sure, through combinations with the R and L buttons one can theoretically reach 20 or more abilities quickly. But that requires a long adjustment period.

WoW Gamepad Combat
Combat goes smoothly – at least with melee classes.

What doesn’t work? Targeting NPCs and looting enemies, however, is less than optimal. For that, you have to manually steer the cursor with the gamepad over the corpse or the NPC and then click to loot or start a dialogue. Auto-looting helps immensely here, but it’s still a bit cumbersome.

It is also tiring to select area effects (i.e., target areas, like a Blizzard) with the gamepad. By the time you have selected the right spot, the mobs have already beaten you to a pulp or are long gone.

It gets really chaotic, however, when you want to tidy up your inventory. The same applies at the vendor as it does in the menus or when looting – the cursor must be directly controlled with the stick.

More than once I thought to myself, “Holy shit, this is too cumbersome!” and quickly got frustrated and grabbed the mouse to accomplish what otherwise would have taken minutes in a few seconds.

WoW Gamepad Trading
Shopping or selling is a nightmare. You tend to grab the mouse again.

It would be useful if Blizzard adds a function that makes the cursor jump to specific interface elements and allows you to simply scroll through the inventory with the arrow keys.

More on the topic
WoW Shadowlands: Blizzard stops listening to feedback and that gives me hope
von Cortyn

Conclusion – Functional, but nothing more

In summary, I have to say that the controller support works rather “mediocre” so far. For classes with few necessary keys while questing, like the demon hunter or warrior, this is definitely good for a change. However, tasks like looting or talking to NPCs still have issues. It really doesn’t work well when you have to move the cursor with the stick. A “fixed” cursor that jumps from menu item to menu item would be a good alternative here.

Likely, the feature will only become really useful through interface addons from the community. There are some already in the live version of the game, but they rely on third-party software to function. At least that should become easier with Shadowlands.

It’s not really recommended in terms of gaming fun – in dungeons or PvP especially not, at least not without dozens of hours of experience.

Are you looking forward to exploring Shadowlands with a gamepad? Or do you think it won’t work out?

Professional player sues LoL team, believes she was used as a PR stunt

The 18-year-old Brazilian Júlia “Mayumi” Nakamura was considered a sensation in League of Legends in 2019 when she managed to join the team INTZ. But now the support player is suing her LoL team. She believes she was no longer treated like a professional player, but rather like a promotional girl.

This is how Mayumi became a professional player: The young Brazilian gained prominence in the world of League of Legends at the end of 2019. After reaching challenger rank, she was offered a professional contract by the Brazilian team INTZ in the summer of 2019.

She was discovered by INTZ through a special program called Invocadoras Project, which aimed to find female players. In addition to Mayumi, the mid laner Tainá “Yatsu” Santos was signed in June 2019.

At the end of 2019, Mayumi made her debut for the Brazilian eSports team. She was the third woman to make it into the league at a particularly young age of 17.

Brazil is known for having a larger role for women in eSports than in the USA and Europe. The whole country is considered eSports-crazy, which sometimes takes on absurd forms.

Mayumi-INTZ
This was when the world was still fine: Mayumi as support for INTZ.

Mayumi becomes a “positive example” for women in LoL at 17

The clip made her world-famous in LoL: Shortly after her debut, Mayumi became known through a clip with Nautilus, which particularly excited audiences in China. In her first game, she achieved a score of 1-0-15, which is really strong. You can watch the clip that made her famous in China here on weibo (via weibo).

It was expected that after her strong debut at the end of 2019, Mayumi would become a regular player for INTZ in 2020, but it turned out differently. Soon after, she was replaced by player Bruno “Hauz” Ferreira, who returned to the team after a hand injury.

LoL-Nautilus
Mayumi became globally known with a game as Nautilus.

Following this, her social media account exploded in China. She also gained attention in the English-speaking web: People remarked that she was a player showing that women can indeed compete in a “male-dominated scene,” as stated on reddit (via reddit).

In the comments, one user stated: We need more women like her in LoL and less “VaeVictis”: The all-female VaeVictis team was viewed as a publicity stunt, which had no chance of winning a single game in LoL.

However, Mayumi also experienced the difficulties that women face in LoL. An ex-professional player made a derogatory comment about Mayumi in January 2020, stating that he should “scratch his balls” before shaking hands with her.

Vaevictis lol
The LoL team VaeVictis, which consisted only of women, was expelled from the league.

From player to model

This is now her complaint: On May 25, Mayumi announced that she is no longer part of INTZ. She will now pursue personal projects and stream. However, the team has not announced her departure.

Additionally, the Brazilian site UOL (via UOL) reports that Mayumi filed a lawsuit against her team on May 26. The lawsuit states that Mayumi’s status changed in February 2020. From a serious player, she allegedly became a kind of figurehead and advertising model.

  • It is said that she felt this way because she was no longer invited to training matches, the scrimmages.
  • She did not receive any more advice from the coaches.
  • Mayumi no longer had her own computer desk in the INTZ gaming house.
  • She was no longer allowed to participate in team meetings.
  • When she complained, she was not responded to.
LoL-Mayumi-Yatsu
Mayumi and the mid laner Tainá “Yatsu” Santos were signed by INTZ in August 2019.

Lawyer says: The team only cared about her image

According to her lawyer Ana Paula Smidt Lima, her contract was only meant for the team to maximize their benefit from Mayumi’s image and to turn her into a “poster girl”.

She felt humiliated being used solely for promotional purposes. She apparently felt discriminated against due to her age and gender.

The contract also contains a clause that financially penalizes her heavily if she unilaterally terminates her contract. She would then have to pay back all the money she earned under the contract (about $63,000).

Mayumi and her lawyer now aim to have the contract rescinded and seek financial compensation for the months she spent with the team.

In a statement from INTZ to UOL, it is stated that the lawsuit only presents a very one-sided version of the facts. The team claims to have fulfilled all its contractual obligations.

Mayumi herself has not commented on the case as she does not wish to speak on an ongoing lawsuit.

Women have a hard time not only in LoL in Brazil and as players, but also as team leaders in the USA. Recently, there was much drama surrounding Leena Xu, the eSports head of Team Solo Mid. She got into trouble three times in just a few weeks.

The 5 most annoying player types you encounter in Fortnite

In Fortnite: Battle Royale, there are various types of players you can encounter in a match. We will show you which of these players are particularly annoying.

What is it about? Those who play Fortnite regularly have certainly encountered different types of players in the game. Either you have to fight against them, or they end up in the same team as you.

However, there are some who can be particularly annoying. MyMMO author Eilyn Rapp shows you in random order which 5 types of players annoy her the most in Fortnite.

1. The “Pros” who make a scene out of every fight

What kind of players are they? You can quickly recognize this species, because they play as if there is no tomorrow. If you shoot in their direction, they build a fortress in seconds.

Building battles seem impossible against these players because they can build, edit, and do everything better. Hiding in a box does nothing because they will find and eliminate you within moments, only to mock you with the “Loser Dance” afterward.

If such a “pro” ends up in your team, you can at least hope they help you to a victory.

What distinguishes these players are their skins, which they adorn themselves with. And yes, I mean the football skins or my personal favorite, which I absolutely cannot stand: Dynamo. No, you are not the Fortnite pro Mongraal, so don’t pretend to be!

For Halloween, there were even zombie versions for the “pros”

2. The players who never mute

What kind of players are they? There is a type of player who can never mute their microphone. They sing, talk, a vacuum cleaner runs in the background, and somewhere a dog is barking.

But why is this so annoying? In Fortnite, it is important to perceive all the sounds of the game. You must be able to hear where the coveted chest with the loot is and, even more importantly: Where is my opponent right now?

If teammates make so much noise, it drowns out the entire game, and usually, you get eliminated quickly because you simply don’t hear that an opponent is nearby. Also, the vacuum cleaner noise is annoying.

3. The Backseat Gamers

What kind of players are they? In Fortnite, it doesn’t have to be game over if you get eliminated. You can watch your teammates, and they can even bring you back with a reboot van so you can continue playing.

However, this spectator function sometimes leads players to behave quite annoyingly. Even though they were eliminated first, they often know better what one should do.

They end up yelling at you while giving you “hard coaching” and issuing commands that usually only serve their interests. Woe to you if you don’t dance to their tune, because then you are a “noob” who knows nothing about the game.

4. The Loot Thieves

What kind of players are they? Do you know those teammates who land in the same spot as you and absolutely want to open the same chest? Of course, they steal all the loot from you.

Yes, it may be a coincidence, and if it only happens once, it’s okay. But those players who follow you like a puppy and steal every item you wanted, these are the annoying loot thieves.

There are so many loot options, please just go to another spot or at least don’t follow me when I’m looking for loot elsewhere!

If you see a loot thief, you have to be careful and quick

5. The players who ruin their own game

What kind of players are they? Something I will never understand is the behavior of some players in the Fortnite community. There are some who ruin their own game that they probably play daily.

It seems they are never satisfied with what Fortnite offers them. Once it doesn’t go the way they want, they declare the game dead, but why? You’re playing it yourself, so why do you want to see your favorite game dead?

Whether you encounter these player types as opponents or teammates in Fortnite, they will definitely cause frustration. Sometimes it can be quite funny to have such a teammate because, even though it’s absurd, it creates funny memories. But during live events, I could do without these types of players because they idiots ruin the event.

This is an AI-powered translation. Some inaccuracies might exist.

Why CoD: Warzone needs the new events even if you criticize them

Call of Duty: Warzone now offers one of three random events per match. These are meant to lighten the game and bring an additional layer of variation. But especially one of the events is rather annoying.

What are events? Season 4 in Warzone introduced random events into the game, which are occurrences that can happen at any point in every match. Only one of the three possible events takes place at a time. The timing is sometime after the first loadout drop and before the closure of the gulag.

What events are there? The events are meant to lighten the gameplay by bringing a drastic change into the game. The three possible events, of which one can occur in each match, are:

  • Jailbreak: All dead players come back into the match, regardless of whether they are completely down, currently in the gulag, or just recently eliminated. One minute before it all starts, an announcement is made.
  • Fire Sale: For one minute, items at the buy stations are drastically cheaper or even completely free, including respawns for your buddies.
  • Supply Chopper: A large and well-armored helicopter appears over Verdansk. The helicopter does not fight but can be shot down. Then high-quality loot rains down.

What is the purpose of the events? The events are meant to clearly disrupt the usual routine of a Warzone match and introduce unforeseen parameters. Through this chaos, more fun is supposed to arise and rigid meta-structures are to be broken.

Especially inexperienced players, who may not earn much money in the game or get eliminated often, can stay in the game longer and achieve more. But how is all this received by the players in practice?

The new events are meant to lighten the gameplay and break structures.

This is how the events are received

This is the reaction to Jailbreak: Jailbreak is a good idea, as it is meant to prevent players from rage-quitting. After all, there is a possibility to come back for free. Because even though there are opportunities for a respawn for dead players after the gulag with sufficient monetary investment, many exit the game frustrated when they get shot.

Unfortunately, this still seems to be the case in many instances. On reddit, players are still complaining about the rage-quits of their dead teammates. Many seem to (still) not want to accept the possibility of a jailbreak, which likely occurs above average. However, since jailbreaks and the other events are still very new, this may change and bring more excitement to the final phases of a Warzone match.

However, the sheer randomness of the jailbreak frustrates some players:

Two jailbreaks happen about 30 seconds before my team’s wipe, which makes them even more frustrating; it feels like a “blue shell” [a hated item in Mario Kart that always hits the leading player], as players who tend to win battles are punished for surviving with a respawn opportunity for too long.

With jailbreak, a lost fight in the gulag is not so tragic anymore.

This is how Fire Sale is received: Fire Sale rewards players who have little money. According to an article on Kotaku, the author saw a player with $6,000 snagging a ton of valuable items, of which he could otherwise only afford one.

What sounds good in theory is also criticized on reddit. The idea would be good, players say, but in reality, it’s simply too much stuff being bought. After the fire sale, the playing field is practically flooded with UAVs, and players don’t know where to put all the stuff, especially in modes like Trio, it’s just too much of a good thing. Additionally, there are suddenly numerous self-revivals available, which completely turns the game upside down.

The idea itself is good; it just needs some adjustment:

It just needs to be adjusted. Let the items be cheaper only with a single purchase. A UAV can still cost $800, but only one would be available to each teammate at that price (perhaps only at that buy station, giving you an incentive to conquer another one).
I think the free re-entry would be fine as is, as everyone has already purchased just one armor or ammunition box, and gas masks are discounted, so I see no problem. The self-revival needs to be at full price. The fire sale seems like a great idea to me, it just needs some changes to work.

Such UAVs are widespread during the fire sale.

This is what players say about the Supply Chopper: While the above events are received fairly equally, the reactions to the supply helicopter are rather negative. This is already evident from the nickname given to the helicopter: “Flying Loot Pinata”.

A fully packed helicopter that hovers unarmed over a battlefield, just waiting to be shot down, disrupts immersion and gameplay for many players.

Furthermore, the helicopter is too loud and distracts from the actual game. Players can’t hear what’s happening in the game anymore. Especially when multiple helicopters appear and endlessly circle.

  • Niv141: “We just had a game where we had 4 helicopters circling around us for 5 minutes, no joke. Nobody wants to shoot them down, so they just fly in circles forever, you can’t hear anything, we have to go inside so we can hear each other on comms.”
  • GulagLIVE: “The sound of the helicopter drowns out the entire game and ruins immersion to provide people with a stuffed piñata that are dumb enough to shoot at something that doesn’t shoot back?”
cod warzone vehicles helicopter removed glitch title
Helis are controversial in Warzone anyway.

Some players would prefer to have the helicopter in the modes of Plunder and Blood Money, as it’s all about loot and bounty there anyway. But these two modes were surprisingly removed from the game by the developers, which does not sit well with fans of these modes.

EA announces new game in Star Wars – spaceship battles likely in focus

Star Wars Squadrons is a new game that multiplayer fans should keep an eye on. It will feature intense PvP space battles with starships.

Starships and Star Wars are inseparably connected. However, in most games, we can only fight on the ground or have space battles as small mini-game segments. This is set to change soon, as a leak talked about Star Wars Squadrons, which was soon after officially teased by EA on Twitter.

What is Star Wars: Squadrons? According to the leak, Star Wars Squadrons is primarily a multiplayer title. After all, EA is using the slogan “Pilots Wanted”. Players will take control of various starships from the “Star Wars” universe and blow each other’s outer hulls apart in multiplayer battles. It seems that the focus will mainly be on team battles – details about the individual objectives or game modes are not yet known.

By the way, the game is developed by the studio Motive, who were responsible for the campaign in Battlefront 2 and also contributed to Anthem.

Is there also a single-player campaign? According to sources from Venturebeat, there will be a single-player campaign. However, it will be rather limited and is not the focus of the game. At its core, Star Wars: Squadron is indeed a multiplayer title, and thus you will probably have the most fun in those game modes.

When is Squadrons set to be released? There is currently no official date for this yet. The sources of the leak mention a release in Fall 2020 – that is, between October and December. A confirmation is still pending, but it will likely come with the first trailer.

First trailer comes on Monday

When will we learn more? The game’s reveal along with a trailer will happen on June 15, so in just a few days. Then you will surely read more about this title here on MeinMMO and find out what the multiplayer starship shooter has to offer.

Whether the game is worth it cannot be assessed based on the information so far. However, if you enjoyed the starship battles in SWTOR and “Galactic Starfighter”, keep your eyes open for this title.

Are you looking forward to a new “Star Wars” multiplayer?

1. Improve Your Crosshair

The most important thing you can adjust, and at the same time the easiest, is the crosshair in Valorant. In every shooter, it is important to always see your crosshair. It must meet certain criteria:

  • it should be thick enough to stand out
  • it must be thin enough to not block your view
  • it should indicate the hit zone as accurately as possible and forgo “coolness” if necessary
  • the color must fundamentally differ from common background colors

Especially the last point is important. A dark red or black crosshair will often not be easily recognized at a glance. However, if it is turquoise, pink, or bright yellow, it becomes much easier.

Valorant Crosshair
Turquoise is one of the possible, more noticeable colors.

The shooter pro shroud has already revealed his settings for crosshair and mouse. You can orient yourself by his tips, as he is considered one of the best players in the world.

2. Position the Crosshair Correctly

You do the most damage in Valorant with a headshot, and many weapons can kill with just one shot this way. Therefore, it is crucial to aim for the opponent’s head as much as possible.

However, especially beginners and even some intermediates often make the mistake of aiming for the torso or the stomach instead. While it is easier to hit there because the target is larger, you usually lose the duel because you die from a headshot first.

So get used to always aiming for the head. It’s best to visit the training mode of the shooting range and practice always aiming at the heads of the bots. This will give you a better feel for aiming itself and train your muscle memory.

3. Memorize “Spray Patterns”

This tip goes hand in hand with the second. Your shots should always hit the opponent’s head, but your crosshair cannot be aimed directly at his head all the time. At least not when you are shooting fully automatically.

The weapons in Valorant have what are called “spray patterns”. They have a recoil that shifts their shots in a characteristic way downwards or to the sides. Each weapon has a different spread pattern.

To learn the patterns, it’s best to go back to the shooting range again. Instead of shooting at the bots, shoot at the target in the next lane. There, you can see all the shots you fire at it.

Valorant Vandal Spray Pattern
The spray pattern of the Vandal.

Fire off a magazine first, without compensating in any way – this way, you can see what spread pattern the weapon has. Then try to compensate for it with your mouse. You’ll notice that the crosshair sometimes sits noticeably below the actual hits.

The right mouse settings help you with this but depend heavily on your personal preference. Initially, practice with the weapons you like best. We recommend the Vandal, one of the strongest weapons. You can find a guide for it here:

4. Don’t Rely on the Scope

Many shooters, like the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Rainbow Six: Siege, allow you to look through a weapon’s scope. In those shooters, it’s even important to aim properly.

Valorant allows you to do this with most weapons as well, although it is more closely related to Counter-Strike (where this is not possible). However, you shouldn’t rely on the scope, as it brings several disadvantages, such as restricting your field of view.

Valorant Vandal ADS
A scope makes aiming easier but severely limits your peripheral vision.

Instead of trusting the scope, you should practice shooting and hitting from the hip instead – like in Counter-Strike. With the previous tips, that should no longer be a problem.

Looking through the scope is, by the way, called “ADS” in gamer jargon, which stands for “Aim Down Sights“. How well do you know gamer jargon?

5. Use External Aim Training

If these tips are not enough and you want to belong to the absolute best players, you should train your aim properly – consistently and constantly. There are various programs specifically designed for this purpose.

A powerful program that helps you improve is the free tool “Aim Lab”, which you can download via Steam. Aim Lab gives you the opportunity to practice different weapon types while collecting information about your performance. Here’s a short trailer for the program:

This is how Aim Lab works.

In different scenarios, you practice hitting moving targets or aiming at specific positions. The program thus also helps you find the right settings for your mouse.

In general, the rule for all these tips is: Keep trying and practice as much as you can. In the end, you won’t automatically become a pro through simple settings, but through practice. However, you should avoid one mode for the moment. Shroud advises in one of his recent streams: If you want to become a pro in Valorant or CS:GO, stay away from ranked.

New takedown in Borderlands 3 drives players to despair: “Immune, immune, immune”

The new “Takedown at the Guardian Breach” is currently demanding everything from Borderlands 3 players. The new endgame challenge is extremely difficult and is being critically received.

This is the new Takedown: Since the new patch from last Thursday, the “Elimination at the Guardian Breach” is available to all players who have completed the main story in Borderlands 3.

However, the Takedown is recommended only from the maximum level. And you should also have a strong build with good weapons in reserve. Otherwise, the Takedown will wipe the floor with you. This already applies to the scaled version for group size. In “True Takedown Mode,” it is available in the original difficulty for a full team of four players – and of course, it’s even tougher.

This is how the Takedown works: The Takedown takes place on the new planet Minos Prime. To get there, you need to speak to Tannis at the Sanctuary.

On Minos Prime, you are supposed to investigate a Guardian signal, but the Guardians present there have something against it. They will throw everything they have at you in a low-gravity environment – and these are not just extremely tough opponents.

What to expect in the Takedown:

  • Various types of enemies. Sometimes they fly, sometimes they scurry around, sometimes they have a lot of firepower. Or all at once.
  • Enemies with very high health points that are tough to deal with.
  • Puzzle-like tasks that require a lot of attention while you are simultaneously fighting for your life.
  • Platforming sequences between the broken parts of the planet.

Additionally, there is only one checkpoint in the Takedown. If you die, you’re out for now, and your group must continue fighting without you. If you make it to the checkpoint halfway through the Takedown, you can rejoin. After that, it’s again: whoever dies, is out.

Borderlands 3 Flak
In the Takedown, there are new equipment and cosmetics

At the end, as in the Maliwan base, a brutal final boss awaits. In the Takedown, there are also unique loot items, such as legendary weapons, but also cosmetics. It can definitely be worth it. However, the first reactions to the Takedown show that it won’t be easy.

Guardian Takedown shows no mercy with players

This is what the community says: Many players have difficulties with the new Takedown. While the new world Minos Prime is praised for its stylish design, the challenge itself sometimes causes raised eyebrows.

For example, one user comments (via Borderlands Subreddit): “For some reason, my weapons do nothing here” – a comment that many pick up on. Background: In the Takedown, there are enemies with very high health points – especially at high Mayhem levels.

Takedown Borderlands 3
Your Vault Hunters have a tough time in the Takedown

They can take a lot – too much, some players find: “I tried all my weapons in the first room on M10, and the only one that took out the enemies (before I got a random hit and died) was the Recursion with Amara” (via Reddit).

Some suspect a scaling error here. The revised Mayhem mode brought several problems. On the other hand, the developers had already stated, regardless of the Takedown, that Mayhem 10 should not be easy – so it’s possible that this is indeed intentional.

Because the rest of the Takedown also makes the players sweat quite a bit. For example, there is a sequence where you have to charge different crystals – more or less at the same time. Otherwise, they become unstable, you die, and have to start over. Not easy when you’re currently fighting hordes of enemies.

Guardians
The Guardians are not exactly pleased

There are also platforming sequences, which are not often seen in Borderlands. The nasty part: Often you have to jump on invisible platforms. If you fall into the abyss, you’re out again.

One player finds: The Takedown consists of “Death Platforming (…), Death Puzzles (…) and Death Bosses” (via reddit). Especially the last point also causes annoyance – because the mid and end bosses of the Takedown come with too many immunity phases for many players. Or, as reddit user Ryphl summarizes: “Immunity immunity immunity immunity immunity immunity immunity immunity” (via reddit).

It’s possible that reactions to the Takedown will improve over time. Also, Maliwan Takedown shocked many at first with the difficulty and enemies that could take a tremendous amount of damage. But for that, you will first need suitable builds.
