Soon, the next video game franchise will receive an adaptation in series form. The creators are award-winning directors and producers, and even the newly unveiled actor raises hopes that the project will succeed.
Which series is it about? Far Cry, the game series by Ubisoft that started in 2004, is being adapted into a series. And not just by anyone. The showrunner is Noah Hawley, who also directs and has previously been involved in award-winning series like Fargo, Bones, or most recently Alien Earth.
He is joined by Rob Mac, who will also appear as an actor in Far Cry. Also confirmed in the cast is Lizzy Caplan, whom you might know from Now You See Me 2.
Now, another actor has been confirmed, raising expectations even further: Steve Buscemi will play a significant role in Far Cry. This brings reinforcements from a defining face of the 90s to the production.

Whom does Steve Buscemi play? This is unfortunately not yet known. However, looking at the actor’s filmography, one can at least speculate. Buscemi often played somewhat quirky, eccentric figures, often loser-types, petty criminals, or outsiders.
Some of his most notable roles include his appearances in Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Fargo (the film), The Big Lebowski, or the series Boardwalk Empire.
Although nothing has been revealed about the plot of the Far Cry series yet, it is unlikely that Buscemi will embody the (presumably) gun-toting hero as portrayed by Til Schweiger in the film by Uwe Boll (2008). According to IMDb, it ranks among the worst video game adaptations of all time.
The community on Reddit is already speculating about what kind of character Buscemi could play. For user Straight-Ad6926, there are essentially only two possibilities: “Either he plays a paranoid, sweaty arms dealer living in a swamp, or a gentle florist who accidentally took over the leadership of a cartel. There is nothing in between.”
Other users also believe that Buscemi will take on the role of the antagonist. Moreover, the series tells a new story apart from the games. Each season will offer a new story with fresh characters.
Aside from the cast, the showrunner team is also receiving great approval from fans. However, we will have to be patient until the release, as filming has not yet begun. After completion, Far Cry will be released on Disney+, produced by FX Productions.
Now we want to know your opinion. Are you eagerly awaiting a series based on Ubisoft’s successful franchise, or would you have preferred another brand? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. Another franchise will also be continued soon and has commented on a controversial topic: Not even Gollum is safe from AI, as it will let heroes in the next Middle-earth film age backward.
