At the beginning of the year, Pokémon GO tested limited research. For our author Noah, this event series was brilliant. But now it has gone quiet around the limited research. But why?
These are limited researches: At these events, there are special field researches to solve, which all reward you with a special Pokémon. This appears for the first time as Shiny.
Recently, there was the event in March. There, Shiny Loturzel was available for the first time, and in the wild, Shiny Formeo was encountered more frequently, which was also new.
However, in the following months, there were no further limited researches. After it seemed that such an event would be held monthly, there is now again silence.
That’s why the limited researches were so good
The limited researches were so good: It was a completely different approach that you had to play with here. You mainly had to hunt for the field researches to get the Shinies.
Normally, Shinys are found mainly in the wild, but during the limited researches, you had to rely on the quests.
Moreover, the bonuses were good. During the researches with Perlu, there were additional water Pokémon in the wild and double stardust. At the event with Loturzel, Formeo spawned another new Shiny in the wild.
What I liked best: The quests sometimes challenged you a bit. “Land 3 good throws in a row” or “Land 3 curveball throws” can be accomplished by all players in time, but here you could also shine with your throwing skills and complete the tasks quickly.
How do other players see this? On Reddit there are various threads from players who are also asking about the limited researches.

Are there no more limited researches now?
What does Niantic say about this? The developers have not yet commented on the future of the limited researches. This is sad because many players are still hoping for such an event.
Were there problems with the researches? Especially after the early researches with Barschwa there was a lot of criticism. The quests were said to be too hard and Shiny Barschwa was far too rare.
Niantic also reacted to this and changed the Shiny rate at Perlu and even extended the period during the event with Loturzel to 9 hours, while it was previously 3 hours.
However, there were still complaints. Especially rural players see a problem, because they don’t have many PokéStops. Therefore, the limited researches are quickly completed there.
What does the future of limited researches look like? Niantic continually faced criticism during the event. There wasn’t really any during the Community Day or the Raid Days.
Also, currently, exactly these live events are already taking place with 2 major events per month. In addition, there are the GO Fests in summer.
The time frame for the limited researches is therefore small. After it now seems that there will also be no quest day for the 4th month in a row, things look bleak for the limited researches.
But there is a glimmer of hope: at least in August with Suicune, the last raid day for now will take place. So there would be room for another quest day in September. We will have to wait and see what Niantic comes up with.
