In September 2021, the new MMORPG New World launched and immediately created a huge hype on Steam. 9 months later, it has lost over 90% of its players. Where do the problems lie, and can the game still make a turnaround? We discuss this in the MeinMMO-Podcast.
New World initially celebrated great success. Over 900,000 players were online simultaneously during the release weekend. The MMORPG also achieved success on Twitch. So, at first, everything looked good.
But the hype faded quickly. Players criticized uninspired quests, long leveling phases, the clunky combat system, dozens of bugs, and gold dupes. Hardcore players also complained about the lack of endgame content and long travel times after just a few days.
Now, 9 months after the release of New World, the MMO stands on the brink, as player numbers are dangerously low. Nevertheless, there is hope due to regular updates and the core concept.
