The latest update of Warframe offers variety with a horror mode. Here you will find out what to expect.
What kind of update is this? In the Spring update of Warframe, “The Shadowmaker”, things are anything but flowery. It’s all about Follie, the new, now 64th Warframe in the game. As Shadowmaker, she can bring ink to life and thus confront the enemy hordes.
Appropriately, there is also a new game mode, “Follie’s Hunt”. Here you will be chased by an overpowering version of the new Frame. You can experience this horror mode solo or in asymmetric multiplayer with up to five players.
The update will be released on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 4 PM.
Warframe becomes a horror shooter
What is the new mode about? The new game mode “Follie’s Hunt” is the Warframe version of an asymmetric horror survival game in 4-vs-1. Four players team up to complete tasks on the map. The fifth player becomes the dreaded hunter.
As a slow, overpowering, and immortal version of Follie, she haunts the map, supported by numerous ink monsters and traps. Alternatively, you can also face a NPC version of Follie solo.
The normal players must primarily be quick and not get caught. This clearly distinguishes the mode from the usual gameplay in Warframe:
If you are used to Warframe and see danger, what do you do? You go into the danger. You never go around it! […] In this game mode, we try to make everything a little scarier, a little more dangerous. If you encounter Follie, we want you to die if you don’t get out of there fast enough.

How does the mode work exactly? As one of the four normal players, your goal is to find and complete a total of three paintings. To do that, you need to find two charges of paint per painting.
- Neither paintings nor paint are marked on the map at the start.
- When you kill enemies, there is a chance that a light will spawn to show you the way to the next paint.
- While you are transporting paint, you must play as Operator/Drifter.
- If your life falls to zero, you will lose the paint.
Unfortunately, your search does not go unnoticed. A large and slow version of Follie hunts across the map and tries to stop you by all means.
- Follie herself is immortal – you cannot get rid of her.
- If Follie manages to catch you, you die instantly.
The further you progress with your task, the more aggressive and dangerous Follie becomes. Different escalation levels make your job increasingly harder and turn the search into a psychedelic horror nightmare:
- Ink Drops: Some paths will be permanently blocked by large amounts of impassable ink.
- Follie’s Prototypes: Copies of Follie are scattered around the relay, emitting their dangerous aura.
- Locked Doors: Ink blobs seal doors and must be shot to get through.
- Darkness: Darkness envelops the relay, making orientation difficult.
Even though the map is always similarly structured, memorizing it only helps to a limited extent. The locations of paintings, paint charges, resources, and traps change every round. Additionally, curses that occur in each round provide variety:
- Giantism: Enemies become significantly larger and have more health points.
- Polyopia: Copies of Follie appear that can be killed. They otherwise possess all their abilities.
- Sticky Ink: Ink threads spread out to injure and slow players when they come close to ink-splattered surfaces.
- Exploding Touch: The touch of enemies causes them to explode, dealing damage and slowing nearby players.
Where can I find the mode? To gain access to Follie’s Hunt, you must have completed the quest “Chains of Harrow”. Then you can start the mode at any time in the destroyed Vesper Relay on the planet Venus.
With Follie, you bring ink to life
Another highlight of the update is of course Follie herself. With this new Warframe, you can bring ink to life to support your team and control enemy hordes. Here are her abilities:
- Passive: Follie’s abilities coat enemies with ink, slowing their movement by 50% for several seconds. Affected enemies have a 20% chance to drop health and energy orbs.
- Ability 1 – Forced Perspective: Dives through an ink frame and appears invulnerable at the target location in a puddle of ink, which damages nearby enemies with ink splash.
- Ability 2 – Shadow Image: Brings shadow images from Follie’s sketchbook to life and uses them as tactical advantages. Shadow images splash nearby enemies with ink as soon as they are created.
- Ability 3 – Self-Portrait: Draws an ink figure to absorb damage taken by Follie. Below, ink splash spreads out in a puddle. Kill enemies to grow Follie’s ink figure and the ink puddle.
- Ability 4 – Pleinair: Binds nearby enemies to floating balloons, pouring ink over them. Let the balloons burst for them to fall and deal damage to nearby enemies.
At the start of the update, Follie can either be purchased in the marketplace for premium currency or crafted from blueprints. The blueprints can be collected in the new game mode “Follie’s Hunt”.
Besides Follie and the new game mode, the update also brings many other innovations. In addition to new weapons and cosmetic items, there are also new clan features and a revision of the tutorial quest for beginners. You can find more about it on the official Warframe website.
