Nightingale is a new survival game being developed by former BioWare developers. Due to the prominent cast and the good reveal trailer, players have high hopes. It has now been revealed that the gaming giant Tencent also shares this interest. They have now directly purchased the entire studio.
What kind of game is this? Nightingale will be a survival game for PC set in a Victorian world inspired by the 19th century. In this world, elements of fantasy, steampunk, magic, and real history will be mixed.
You play as a Realmwalker, a mage who can travel between worlds. Your task is to seek a new home for humanity, as the old one is threatened by a massive catastrophe.
The focus will be on crafting, fighting against the environment, and cooperation among players:
- You will be able to build your own base and even collaborate with other players to create settlements to help each other.
- You will be able to craft weapons and tools to aid in survival.
- There will be a “nearly infinite number of fairy worlds” that you can explore and settle.
- So far, everything suggests that it will be a pure PvE game.
When will the game be released? There is currently no official release date, but Nightingale is expected to enter Early Access sometime in 2022. Nothing is known yet about the payment model and the duration of Early Access. However, Tencent is strongly focused on free-to-play titles, but it is still unclear whether Nightingale will follow that model.

How is the game being received so far? The announcement trailer for the game was released in December 2021 and has since gathered over 2.4 million views. Many players in the comments express their excitement about the chosen setting, the graphics shown so far, and the fact that former BioWare developers are working on the game.
The CEO of Inflexion Games is Aaryn Flynn, who served as General Manager for titles including Dragon Age and SWTOR. Leah Summers, Director of Production, and Tyler Lee, UI Director, were also previously active at BioWare for many years.
What has happened now? The Chinese tech giant Tencent has fully acquired the developer studio Inflexion Games. They were previously part of Improbable, the company that developed the “wonder technology” SpatialOS. However, the purchase price has not been disclosed.
Additionally, the press release states that Improbable will continue to work with Inflexion Games, as their technology is still in use there.
Who is Tencent? Tencent is a vast tech company from China and one of the major publishers in gaming. They have developed games like PUBG Mobile and Arena of Valor. They also own well-known developers, including:
- Riot Games – the developer of League of Legends
- Digital Extremes – the developer of Warframe
- Funcom – the developer of Conan Exiles
They also own stakes in several companies, including 80% of the developers of Path of Exile, 48% of Epic Games, 5% of Ubisoft, and 5% of Activision Blizzard. With Inflexion Games, they have now acquired a new studio for their portfolio.
What do you think of Nightingale? Is this a good step for the studio? And how do you feel about Tencent acquiring more gaming studios?
The acquisition of Inflexion Games will not create as much of a stir as other acquisitions in recent months. However, the purchase of Bungie by Sony promises some positive news for MMO fans:
