Currently, an MMO is achieving great success on Kickstarter. Skyclimbers has already surpassed its funding goal by 700%, and the crowdfunding is not yet over. But what kind of game is it?
What exactly is this game? Skyclimbers transports you to a distant planet. There, you create a hero from the classes Paladin, Mage, and Ranger, each with their own skills. It is also possible to combine classes.
With your hero, you set out to explore the vast land in third-person perspective and gather resources. Together with other players, you build houses and entire cities. It is possible to establish a kingdom and then wage war against other kingdoms. For this, it is necessary to build barracks and recruit soldiers who answer to your command.
During your adventures, a mysterious story unfolds, involving future technologies, robots, and mysterious beings. In the wilderness, you face monsters and must also combat your hunger.
Additionally, you can tame wild creatures and further develop them, for example as mounts for land, water, and air, or for combat support.
A colorful mix that is very well received
What makes the game so special and popular? Besides the very exciting mix of building strategy, survival, and action RPG that is intriguing for players, the so-called dynasties are a unique aspect of Skyclimbers. You establish a dynasty that spreads across the planet. Each uses a unique building style, and the players belonging to the dynasty receive a bonus. This is based on an element that represents the dynasty.
Players can set up their own servers like in Valheim to embark on adventures together with friends.
The world consists of several biomes such as forests or meadows, which are randomly generated per server. This is meant to make exploration particularly exciting. Graphically, the developers are inspired by animes.
When does Skyclimbers launch? The MMO currently does not have a precise release date. However, it is expected to enter alpha and an early access phase on Steam by the end of the year.
The MMO will be available for PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store, as well as for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. However, the console versions will be released only after the PC version.
How can you play earlier? A pre-alpha is currently taking place, but all spots are already filled. A second testing phase is already planned, and you can now register on the official website for it. Once pre-alpha 2 starts and you are selected, you will be notified.
How is the game financed? Development is funded through a crowdfunding campaign. Games like Chronicles of Elyria (CoE), Crowfall, or Camelot Unchained also used this method to raise money for their creation. Not always successfully, as CoE proves.
Through Kickstarter, the team behind Skyclimbers aimed to raise $25,000. Currently, the amount stands at $198,956 – as of February 22 at 1:30 PM. So the MMO is being very well received by players.
If you want to participate in the funding, you can do so until March 11, 2021. Starting from $45, you can join the regular alpha, which starts in the second quarter of 2021.
