Until December 15, all lovers of the soulslike genre can register for the closed beta of “Enotria: The Last Song” on Steam. The game by developer Jyamma Games immerses you in a fantastic setting, essentially influenced by Italian folklore.
What makes the game special? Spiritual successors of the renowned Souls games from the Japanese studio From Software are now as common as sand on the beach. The recently released “Lords of the Fallen” is just one example among many.
“Enotria” aims to impress with local charm. The eponymous fantasy world is heavily influenced by Italian folklore. The first trailers already showcase the intricate architecture of an Italian city, dusty alleys, and magnificent temple complexes:
Soulslike with Vacation Vibes
This is what the game is about: A strange force called “Canovaccio” holds the world under its control. To restore balance to the world, one must take up arms – and wear masks. They represent a central element of “Enotria”.
Once looted, the masks can be changed during gameplay. They equip the character with various abilities, transforming the faceless hero into a warrior, rogue, or battle mage.
In August 2023, the game was showcased at Gamescom in Cologne, where it was also nominated for two awards. Shortly thereafter, the development studio released a Technical Showcase Video on the occasion of the Tokyo Game Show in September. In it, Game Director Stoyan Stoyanov emphasizes that it is very important for the team behind “Enotria” to remain true to both the traditions of the genre and those of the Mediterranean scenario.
The admittedly vacation-like game world is rendered by Unreal Engine 5. As seen in the video, fluid animations enable a more aggressive combat style, reminiscent of what we know from “Bloodborne”.
How to Sign Up for the Closed Beta of Enotria
How to get involved: Those who enjoy the challenging gameplay of the souls games can soon try “Enotria” for themselves. But you shouldn’t take too much time. Registration for the closed beta can only be done through the website of the developer until December 15, 2023. To do this, you need to sign up with your name and email address, fill out a questionnaire, and subscribe to the Discord channel and newsletter of the game.
The beta is PC-exclusive and runs via Steam. However, not everyone who signs up will be able to start playing immediately. Initially, only a small portion of applicants will be selected to test the game. Gradually, the number of participating players will be increased. The closed beta serves to identify issues with the current version and improve the overall quality of the game.
An important point: The beta is subject to an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement), which means that everything you experience while playing must remain strictly confidential.
All beta players will also receive an in-game skin that can be activated in time for the release. The game is expected to be released in 2024 for PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. A specific date is not yet available.
