What should I do at the beginning? First steps
Once the tutorial has given you an insight into the world of GTA 5 Online, several possibilities are now open to you. Grab an NPC car and drive through the city, which you should mostly know from the single-player campaign.
If you want, you can accept invitations to missions, races, or other activities that you find on your phone.
At first, it is advisable to take a look at the various activities in GTA Online and find out what you enjoy. Go to the pause menu -> Jobs -> Play jobs and scroll through the huge list. You earn your first money while doing this. And you can easily multiply that.
How to earn the first money – How?
If you just started in the online world of GTA 5, your account balance is likely low. But don’t worry, because earning the first few bucks is easy.
Deliver cars to Simeon: Soon after logging in, you will receive an in-game SMS from Simeon. He wants you to steal certain cars from NPCs and take them to his warehouse. This will earn you a few thousand bucks. It’s best to bring the car to him without scratches.
Robbing stores: Once you’ve secured your first weapon, even if it’s just a pistol, you can rob small stores like gas stations. Go to the counter and aim your gun at the cashier. Then he will hand over the money. But be careful, the police might catch wind of it and come after you.

Spontaneous events: In the various online sessions, spontaneous events start from time to time. You can recognize them when an announcement suddenly appears on the screen. Heists: Difficult for beginners, but can be accomplished with the help of other players. Heists are the robberies in GTA Online that offer a co-op adventure for 2-4 players. Together with your allies, you will share team lives and must face NPCs without dying too often. How to refill armor, ammunition, and health points?
Below, under your minimap, you can see the display for health points and armor. Green indicates health points, blue indicates armor. As soon as your armor is depleted, health points will be deducted. If they drop to 0, you are dead and respawn nearby.
Both bars can be filled independently of each other.
Health points can be secured with snacks that you can buy at vending machines or grocery stores. Through the interaction menu -> Inventory -> Snacks, you can check your supplies and eat on the spot.
Armor is bought in Ammu-Nation stores, at the weapon dealers. You will find the selection right after the entrance on the left wall.
Through the interaction menu -> Inventory -> Armor, you can refill it. The higher your level, the heavier body armor you can carry and the more you can carry.
Ammunition is available at Ammu-Nation stores, but can also be bought during a mission lobby or ordered through the interaction menu.
Improving stats – Flying and Driving?
Your character in GTA Online has a stat system that you can improve. When creating your character, you could already distribute some points. Through playing and completing certain activities, the others improve. We will show you what you need to do and what the benefits are.
Stamina: The higher this value, the longer your character can sprint on foot or by bicycle before losing health points. To strengthen the skill, you simply have to walk through the world or ride a bike.
Shooting: The higher this value, the lower the weapon disadvantages such as recoil and reload time. You level up this value by shooting with weapons in missions or game modes, taking down enemies, or practicing at shooting ranges in Ammu-Nation.
Strength: The higher this value, the stronger and more resilient you are in hand-to-hand combat. Also, your power in tennis, golf, and arm wrestling increases with it. You increase your strength through fistfights and sports activities.
Stealth: The higher this value, the quieter you can move. This is important when playing in enemy modes and you don’t want to be detected on the map, or in heists where you don’t want to attract attention. You level up the skill by moving crouched.
Flying: The higher this value, the better you can take off, fly, and land aircraft. Distractions like wind have less effect, and difficult maneuvers are easier to control. You level up the skill casually by participating in flight races or flying in the open world.
Driving: The higher this value, the more control you have over the vehicle. This makes performing wheelies easier and allows you to control better in the air. You increase the value by driving around without crashes, doing stunts, or driving against traffic.
Lung capacity: The higher this value, the longer you can dive. You increase the value when your character is underwater.
Mental state: Your mental state changes when you kill players or NPCs in the open world. The higher the value, the more opponents see you as a threat on the minimap.
Attacking Other Players, but Where?
Of course, it is tempting to go after other players in an online session immediately. After a long loading screen, you may have built up frustration that needs to be released. However, don’t shoot at other players if you’re a newcomer. The chances are high that your potential victims have a higher level and significantly stronger weapons.
Instead, PvP modes are recommended, in which you are at least raised to the same level in terms of weaponry by collecting weapons as loot.
Go to the pause menu, click on “Online” and then select a mode of your choice like Deathmatch, Versus, or Survival. Now select one from the list or let yourself be assigned to a random lobby and get started.
Where can I find free / cheap cars?
Without a means of transportation, it is not easy in the vast online world of GTA 5 if you want to get from A to B quickly. Cars and planes are essential.

Where can you save money?
Especially at the beginning of your online career, you should not buy everything that comes your way. Make sure to buy things that you a) really want or b) need as a foundation for later money-making.
You can save at the beginning on:
- Weapons – You don’t need all kinds of pistols or shotguns – just take one you can handle.
- Paint jobs – Whether on weapons or vehicles. You can always upgrade to a different color later, and it primarily only concerns you.
- Car tuning – Sure, underbody lighting looks cool on your car. But it won’t make it faster. Save money on tuning and only upgrade what makes you faster, offers more armor, or makes your tires bulletproof.
- Properties – Do you want to buy a luxury apartment to start heists? Great! But you don’t have to take the most expensive one. When buying properties, make sure to pick one with a good location in the city.

Are you now playing GTA Online regularly? Good, then also grab the daily goals that appear.
Daily Goals: These change once a day between 6 and 7 AM German time. There are always three goals that differ depending on the character. If you complete all 3 goals, that’s 30,000 GTA$ and 3,000 RP for you. If you keep this up for a week, you will receive a bonus of 150,000 GTA dollars. If you complete your daily goals every day for a month, you will receive a bonus of 750,000 GTA dollars.
