Anime adaptations have a difficult reputation. Often, the adaptations fail to capture the magic of the original. However, there are also positive examples, and a forthcoming film is already getting fans excited with a short teaser.
Which film is it about? On April 29, 2026, the live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days will be released in Japan. The manga already received an anime adaptation on Netflix in 2025. Sakamoto Days follows Taro Sakamoto. Once, he was a legendary hitman, but after falling in love, he started a family and lived a simple life as a shopkeeper.
But his reputation precedes him, and he is regularly attacked by other killers. Although he is no longer in top physical shape, he has not lost his skills.
Despite the fact that anime adaptations are often received critically (One Piece is one of the few exceptions), the teaser is well-received.

Not too realistic, but suitably silly
How does the community react to the teaser? On February 4, AnimeTV released a teaser for the adaptation on x.com. In just 30 seconds, you can see brief snippets of Sakamoto’s daily life, as well as many action scenes. Although some comments are skeptical because it’s an anime adaptation, the teaser seems to be well-received.
So writes @_0_anime_0_ (source: x.com), that live-action adaptations are a gamble, but the trailer looks promising. Other users like @Laphrydae (source: x.com) praise the portrayal of the characters. For @AINumenor (source: x.com), it is clear: Finally, the best hitman comes to real life.

The teaser shows: One does not take oneself seriously, and that’s a good thing
What does MeinMMO film editor Nikolas Hernes say about the teaser? I haven’t seen the anime myself, but as a fan of Japanese action films, the teaser caught my attention. Yes, it looks silly, but that is exactly what I want in such an adaptation.
In the teaser, I particularly like the camera work, such as when a bullet flies towards Sakamoto’s glasses. If the fight scenes can convince despite the exaggerated effects, this will be a solid action film that is interesting not just for anime fans.
The premise and costumes already show that there will likely be much fun. However, this is based only on the first scenes of the teaser, so one should still be cautious.
When will the film be released in Germany? The Japanese release is on April 29, 2026; for a German version, one will likely have to wait a bit longer. From experience, anime adaptations usually start in our cinemas only in a limited way or directly as DVD, Blu-ray, or streaming.
