In a new action game for PS5, you slice your way through massive armies and famous heroes on battlefields in ancient China. You can test how that feels in the demo.
Which game is being talked about? Dynasty Warriors Origins is an action game from the Japanese development studio Koei Techmo and the latest installment of a series of video games. The first part was released in 1997 with Dynasty Warriors.
Origins deals with the history of the Three Kingdoms, just like its predecessors: After the fall of the Han Dynasty, a group of feudal lords divided the land among themselves and fought for dominance in the realm, both on and off the battlefield.
On November 22, 2024, the developers released a free demo for Dynasty Warriors Origins. It is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and was announced a few days earlier in a trailer:
Large battles against famous heroes
What kind of game is Dynasty Warriors Origins? As a nameless hero, you travel through the land and encounter famous characters like the cold strategist Cao Cao and Lu Bu, the strongest warrior in China. However, the massive battles with up to hundreds of soldiers are at the center of the game.
You participate in battles from a third-person perspective. With the strength of a demigod, you fight your way through countless soldiers. Usually, they pose little danger. It gets more challenging when a hero stands against you. They can endure more than simple foot soldiers and deal more damage, making them significantly more dangerous.
In battles, you regularly take control of smaller troop formations. For example, you command a cavalry unit under your command to charge at the enemies, defend a gate with shield bearers, or let huge boulders rain down on your foes.

The download is free; the full version at release will cost 79.99 euros and is therefore quite expensive overall. The pre-order bonus is a free costume created in collaboration with the game “Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.”
When will the game be released? The full version of Dynasty Warriors Origins will be released on January 17, 2025.
