In Valorant, players are getting smarter with their skills. A clever player has discovered a particularly nasty method for how the agent Viper uses her feared poison cloud on the map Haven.
What’s Viper’s Ultimate all about? In the Beta of Valorant, the agent Viper can create a large poison cloud at the target location as her ultimate ability. The cloud permanently reduces the health of victims and obscures visibility. This makes the cloud an optimal defensive ability, with which you can temporarily turn tactically important areas into death zones.
Viper players often save the Ultimate for the endgame, when the Spike is planted and needs to be defended. When the Spike is in a swirling poison cloud, defusing it becomes difficult. Especially if Viper is lurking somewhere in the poison, waiting for a daring player to touch the Spike so she can take them out from behind.
This already solid tactic can be made even meaner and more effective, as a player has discovered on reddit.
Viper plus Haven = Death Trap from Hell
Here’s how the trick with the death trap works: The following trick was executed by reddit user MrPreuss on the map Haven (the map with the 3 Spike locations). The idea is to cast Viper’s Ultimate from the window onto the Spike. This maximally extends the poison cloud, allowing Viper to take out unsuspecting enemies from the window even more effectively.
Two cheeky (arguably broken) Viper ults on Haven from r/VALORANT
For the trick, proceed as follows:
- Place the Spike at location A
- Run as fast as you can to the window that overlooks the yard of A
- Go to the window, activate your Ultimate and aim at the stack of crates next to the Spike.
- Release the Ultimate and hide behind the window. Now wait until you hear the alarm that someone is tampering with the Spike.
- Then look out the window and shoot the enemy from above.

What are the advantages of the trick? For one, the poison cloud is maximally extended in this way and looks quite nasty from the outside. It’s likely that enemies won’t even dare to go in, giving you more time for the Spike.
In addition, you’re perfectly camouflaged from the window above, as no one can see you from the outside, and you’re hard to recognize from within the gas. You can theoretically just stay up by the window and immediately fire at the enemy.
Be cautious about: Watch out if the enemy has agents like Sova in play. They can still spot you through the poison mist with their skills. And if this trick becomes known, it’s likely that the enemy might throw a grenade or similar into the window just as a formality or randomly fire a few shots into the window opening.
