You told us what you think about the new shooter from Riot, Valorant. You were surprisingly united in almost all points.
What was it about? The first beta of Valorant has already started and Twitch is buzzing with streams of the new shooter from Riot. This is mainly due to the developer’s unusual strategy of distributing beta keys through Twitch drops to viewers.
This resulted in Valorant having more viewers on Twitch on its first day than the Fortnite World Championship. Therefore, we wanted to know how the readers of MeinMMO feel about the shooter.
In a survey, we asked if you are interested in the beta of Valorant. In your responses, you were surprisingly united, both in positive and negative points.
You can find all the info about the beta in our article:
This is how you voted: The survey started yesterday shortly after the beginning of the Valorant beta. So far (April 8, 2020, 11:20 AM), a total of 507 users have participated.
Each participant could only cast one vote. Here are the results:
- Yes, I have been waiting forever for such a shooter: 41.82%
- Yes, at least to try it out briefly: 20.51%
- I will wait to see how it is received: 6.9%
- No, the access is too complicated for me: 13.22%
- No, I am not interested in the beta: 17.55%
The voting shows a strong tendency in favor of Valorant. The majority of you, with 41.82%, have great interest in the shooter, and 20.51% want to at least try it out to get a sense of the gameplay.
For 13.22% of you, the problem was the unusual method that Riot chose for distributing the beta keys. You did not want to watch streams and hope to receive a key that way.
Only 6.9% of the participants wanted to wait to see how Valorant is received by other gamers before making a decision. Meanwhile, 17.55% have no interest in Valorant at all. The reasons for this were mainly communicated in the comments.
These were your comments: However, a different picture emerged in the comments under the article and also on Facebook. Here, too, you were quite united, but in that you have no interest in Valorant.
Several reasons crystallized for this:
- “Artificial hype”: Riot’s strategy of gaining a lot of attention for Valorant through Twitch streamers seems to deter many of you.
- The comic look of the shooter is not well received by many.
- “Looks like 0 fun to me”: The general impression of Valorant through the streams could not convince our readers in the comments and on Facebook.
Our reader MadKiefer wrote about this, for example:
No. I watched a stream. It is sold better than it looks, both graphically and gameplay-wise.
Nevertheless, according to the survey results, there seems to be a strong interest in the shooter. Leya Jankowski believes that the boring appearance of Valorant is deceiving:
How is it in other communities?
This is how the GameStar readers voted: The same survey about the Valorant beta also ran yesterday with our colleagues at GameStar. However, their results show a strong contrast:
- Yes, I have been waiting forever for such a shooter: 4.45%
- Yes, at least to try it out briefly: 8.82%
- I will wait to see how it is received: 5.66%
- No, the access is too complicated for me: 12.78%
- No, I am not interested in the beta 68.28%
Almost 70% of GameStar readers are not interested in the Valorant beta. Only a small part of the community shows some interest in the shooter.
One of the main reasons for this was the lack of uniqueness. Valorant needs “that certain something” that should set the shooter apart from other games in the genre.
Also, Riot’s strategy of trying to appeal to the masses with the shooter has been criticized. Valorant has no clear course that it wants to take, but tries to appeal to both casual and hardcore players. This does not fit together, according to GameStar readers.
Many larger streamers and pro gamers have, however, been convinced by the game. Pro Psalm even wants to end his career in Fortnite for Valorant.
