In Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to catch Escunites or Wapponites for a quest, but they are very rare, especially the large, glowing specimens. We will show you an effective method to farm them.
Why do I need Wapponit? In the base camp of the Karmin Forest, you will find the NPC “Kanya”, who has a passion for fishing. She will familiarize you with the essential basics of fishing and will eventually send you on a side quest to catch a large Wapponit for her. This is easier said than done, as this aquatic creature is hard to find and, above all, very rare.
Finding and Farming Wapponit
Where do I find Wapponit? You can find Wapponit in stalactite caves in the Karmin Forest and in the surrounding lakes. These stalactite caves are hidden behind waterfalls that you can easily pass through. We recommend two locations if you want to find Wapponit:
- North of Area 12 behind the waterfall at the marked spot
- North of Area 8 behind the waterfall at two marked spots
How do I farm Wapponit? If you want to get Wapponit quickly, you should choose the farm spot in Area 8. Go to the stalactite cave and discover the location of the field camp “Underground Lake”. Here you should set up a field camp.
Now you can travel there quickly to fish for Wapponit. However, since this sea creature is rare, you probably won’t encounter it on your first visit. Feel free to check both locations in Area 8. If no Wapponit is available, you can use fast travel to another location to reset the area.
You can recognize Wapponit by its resemblance to an ammonite, a prehistoric snail with tentacles. There are two types: the normal ones, which do not glow, and the large ones, which glow bluish.
For the quest, it is best to catch the Escunites with a fishing rod, but once you have completed the quest, you can also use your net and shoot at the respective Wapponit from a distance. This allows you to catch the sea creatures and fish much faster. The bait is irrelevant for fishing the Wapponit, you just need to be able to play with it.
To do this, pull the bait back and forth to imitate wave-like movement patterns. Do this slowly and episodically, not quickly in succession. Wapponites like to take their time, so you will likely have to cast the bait several times and play with it until one bites.
