The MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria (CoE) might still be released. The development studio is restarting communication with the players and plans to further develop the online game with the help of fans.
What did the developers announce? The current update states that the forums of the MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria are reopening. For now, they are only open for reading and without the criticism that has poured in since March 24th, following the announcement of the game’s cancellation.
Additionally, players can once again view their purchases, and the development of the MMORPG is now to continue transparently. Furthermore, every backer is allowed to play the released pre-alpha course demo.
Chronicles of Elyria is really supposed to be released
How will the development proceed? With some volunteers, Chronicles of Elyria is now supposed to be slowly developed further. Jeromy Walsh, founder of Soulbound Studios, explains:
In recent months, we had to take stock during our ongoing discussions about the best way to deliver Chronicles of Elyria to you and revisit our previous progress in the game. Many tasks are already completed, but CoE is not yet ready for release.
Since we want you to be involved in this process, we decided to start a series of video contributions in which we discuss the state of development and can show you – what has been done, what still needs to be done, and what we need to improve before the game is ready for release; we also want to present our plans for the way forward. We will announce when it starts soon.

What does this mean? The development of Chronicles of Elyria continues. According to Jeromy Walsh’s statement, the MMORPG is definitely supposed to be released, but there is still a lot to be done.
Wasn’t the studio facing closure? In March, Soulbound Studios had to announce that all employees were laid off. At that time, it was stated that it was uncertain whether or when Elyria would reappear.
This led to a lot of criticism from the community. Players even demanded refunds, as some had spent thousands of dollars to retain their own kingdoms in the game.
Since Kickstarter’s terms of service stipulate that a developer studio must fulfill its part of the agreement and deliver a product, refunds would likely have been possible. However, there are currently some issues with these.
Now the studio is somewhat reversing its stance and explains that development on Chronicles of Elyria continued. It was apparently a misunderstanding. The MMORPG is supposed to be released.
Now that work is continuing on the MMORPG, there is a chance that a product will be released. That’s why the demands for refunds might fall flat for now. Currently, it looks like Chronicles of Elyria is too broke to die.
We will soon see if work on CoE is indeed continuing and maybe an MMORPG is finally created.
