Of all times, there were urgent maintenance works on the PlayStation version of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) during the anniversary event and Easter holidays. The developers apologize for this and announce compensations.
Why was there a longer downtime? Zenimax Online explains that a service issue occurred between ESO and the PlayStation Network, which caused the maintenance to be extended last Monday, April 5th.
Unfortunately, this happened during the birthday event of the MMORPG and on Easter Monday. Some ESO players on PS4 and PS5 wanted to take advantage of the anniversary bonus and the event.
Zenimax Online wanted to resolve the issue by reapplying the last patch, which involved a new certification by Sony. This was expected to take 48 hours. However, things turned out differently. Together with Sony, a faster solution was found.
The service could be adjusted and restarted, which solved the problem. Nevertheless, Easter Monday was lost for many players as the servers came back online late at night.
Zenimax apologized for this situation, as the issue was caused by them.
Zenimax apologizes for ESO downtime
What happens now? The developers of ESO have announced a compensation for PlayStation players, which includes:
- The anniversary event will be extended for all players until April 15th
- The 7-day login reward will be changed to EXP boost scrolls with 150% bonus on PS4 and PS5
- The 8-day login bonus now gives PlayStation players the Ayleid Wolf Pup as a pet, which you normally receive after 21 days
- The regular bonuses for 7 and 8 days of logging in will be postponed to later this month, so players on PS4 and PS5 won’t miss out
How are players reacting to the situation? When the longer downtime was announced, players expressed their frustration.
- Denys Doroshev is very frustrated (via Twitter): “This really sucks. Especially for players with an ESO Plus subscription. After all, you pay monthly for it and have no access to the game weekly […]”
- Michael Bryant says (via Twitter): “I understand that such problems can occur, but the past year has been really tough with the lost days. I hope Zenimax will do something about it.”
But there is also understanding for the situation.
- eeri is quite satisfied with the compensation (via Twitter): “Thank you. That’s just fair, after everything that has happened.”
- Dr. Megan Victor finds the apology okay (via Twitter): “Thank you for the apology and the compensation. I really appreciate it.”
