On October 15, 2022, the MMORPG Embers Adrift celebrated its release. The game features a huge sandbox in a medieval world, but it has only PvE. Until now, you had to subscribe to enter this game world. That will change in June.
What kind of game is that? Embers Adrift is an MMORPG where you experience a real adventure and must cooperate with other players. Because even in the starting area, there are monsters that can only be defeated in a group.
Additionally, there are dungeons, raids, and bosses in the open world, but you have to assemble your group through chat or the guild as in Old School games. Those who want to go solo can do so, but will miss out on some experiences.
- The game relies on a Holy Trinity of tank, healer, and DPS.
- During character creation, you can choose the class Defender, Striker, or Supporter. At level 6, you can then choose a second specialization from the same 3 types. This results in a total of 9 different combinations.
- Embers Adrift avoids larger quest hubs and boring farming tasks. All quests in the game tell a story and provide useful rewards.
- There are some elements designed to enhance immersion, including the absence of a minimap, unnecessary tooltips, and a reduced interface.
Embers Adrift wants to be a true Old School MMORPG, which you can also feel in the combat system. It is very slow and offers little dynamism, although it is supposed to gain strategic depth in the endgame. You can also feel in the graphics and the significant time investment that the title is aimed more at a niche audience.
Subscription will be optional, but with some useful upgrades
What is changing now with Embers Adrift? Those who want to play the MMORPG must first pay $39.99 and will then receive one month of subscription included. If you want to continue playing afterward, you must pay $9.99 per month.
Currently, however, Embers Adrift is only $29.99 as part of a sales promotion. Additionally, starting at the end of June, you can play completely without a subscription and gain access to the entire game world and all classes.
However, there are some limited restrictions:
- You only have access to one character slot.
- You have fewer bank slots.
- You have access to fewer emotes.

How has Embers Adrift developed? Since the release in October, there have already been several updates that brought additional dungeons and bosses, revamped crafting, and introduced new hairstyles.
The last major update was released in May and brought new quests, new loot, and improved performance settings. The developers are therefore actively working on further developing Embers Adrift.
