Fans of the wild, unleashed Hulk can rejoice: The next movie starring Spider-Man brings back an earlier version of the green monster and seems to ignore a controversial MCU series.
On June 17, a new trailer for the upcoming MCU film Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released. In it, alongside protagonist Peter Parker, Bruce Banner is also seen.
In one scene of the trailer, Bruce Banner can be seen showing Peter Parker a device on his arm and saying, “If you see me without this thing, run.”
The device that Banner wears on his arm is an inhibitor that is supposed to prevent him from transforming into Hulk. Normally, the absence of the inhibitor wouldn’t be a big issue, at least when considering how the MCU has dealt with it in recent years, especially in the series She-Hulk.
MeinMMO author Johanna is looking forward to the movie for a special reason. Here you can see the new trailer, in which Hulk also makes an appearance:
The Monster Returns
What does the new movie change? In She-Hulk, it is shown that the inhibitor prevents Banner from turning into Hulk, but if it happens anyway, it’s not so bad.
Because his personality and intelligence remain intact, and instead of being just about wild destruction, he speaks in his usual tone.
Even in previous films like Avengers: Endgame, there was Smart-Hulk, a blend of Hulk’s body and Bruce Banner’s consciousness. This version was also relatively tame.
However, the rules from She-Hulk seem to be thrown out the window in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Because later in the trailer, you see Banner transforming into Hulk and he is anything but calm and subdued.
On the contrary: He looms threateningly over Spider-Man and unleashes a massive shockwave by powerfully slamming his hands together, sending the spider flying from the neighborhood.
What does this mean for the MCU? The new movie ignores how the inhibitor works, as seen in She-Hulk. This could be due to the significant negative reaction to the series – over 10,000 users on Rotten Tomatoes gave it only 32%.
On the other hand, it could also mean that in this way, the untamed, rage-fueled Hulk can make a comeback. Only in this form is his true power unleashed. Are you among the fans who prefer this version of the character? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
