In League of Legends, Chroma skins were introduced in 2015. They are special versions of existing skins, released in different colors. There is also a special sale for the Chromas – the Essence Wonderland.
What exactly are Chroma skins? Chromas are different color variants of a champion or a specific skin. To utilize the Chromas, you must have the respective champ and skin unlocked.
Chromas primarily allow players to further customize their characters. For example, if it is not enough to equip the champion Caitlyn with a Pool Party skin, you can additionally color this skin yellow, blue, or pink.
How much do Chromas cost? Chromas cost 290 Riot Points each or can be purchased during the Essence Wonderland for 2,000 Blue Essence (BE) or 195 Riot Points (as early bird offers). Additionally, there are bundles where the skins can be obtained at a lower price.
What changes with Chroma skins? Primarily the color of the worn equipment. Typically, the particle effects of abilities or attacks are not affected by the Chromas.

What types of Chroma skins are there? Chromas come in various colors, but also types:
- Some Chroma skins are permanently available, others only when the skin is on offer.
- Some are only available in bundles.
- Others can only be obtained through Hextech Crafting.
- Some Chroma skins are part of the LoL Partner Program.
However, there is not a Chroma for every skin, and not every skin has identical Chromas.

Chromas and the Essence Wonderland
What is the Essence Wonderland? Twice a year, once in the middle of the season (April or May) and once in the pre-season (November or December), the Essence Wonderland takes place. This is particularly interesting for Chroma fans because the skins can be purchased there for the in-game currency Blue Essence (BE):
- During the mid-season, there are the Chromas that were introduced from July to December.
- During the pre-season, there are Chromas that were released from January to July.
