The Twitch streamer Macaiyla “Macaiyla” Edwards (23) is closely associated with League of Legends. She is also the girlfriend of the biggest LoL streamer Tyler1 and was recently part of the US team Cloud9. But in recent days, a difficult situation escalated after she tweeted about the Ukraine war.
What was that “joke”? The Twitch streamer Macaiyla tweeted on February 23:
“Kanye would stop the war if he were president. True.”
She was referring to the rapper Kanye West, who she apparently jokingly believed could end the war in Ukraine.
Streamer says her team forced her to delete the tweet
These were the consequences of the tweet: Some users found this tweet tasteless. One Twitter user said they had family in Ukraine who are severely affected by the war. They did not find this tweet funny.
Shortly thereafter, the tweet disappeared.
The streamer said her organization, Cloud9, forced her to delete the tweet. However, she didn’t see it that way because she herself found the tweet hilarious.
Streamer says she’s only in it for the money for her “hopefully future children”
How the streamer escalated: Macailya said it wasn’t her job to make her followers feel good. Macailya wants to remind them that she is “somebody’s girlfriend” and doesn’t care about her followers. She’s only here for the money.
“I don’t care if I’m a bitch or ugly or nothing without Tyler. You’re not wrong about that. You’re 100% right. I’m here to make money for my kids, which I hope to have one day. I’m not going to worry about any online guys. It’s all about the money for me. Just give me the money and get lost. Sorry.”
Macailya then opened a poll asking whether she should leave Cloud9 or not. After 66.4% voted for her exit, she said she asked Cloud9 for permission to leave the team.
She had been with Cloud9 as a content creator since summer 2021.
Previously, Macailya had indirectly criticized Cloud9’s decision to fire coach LS just hours before a professional match on Twitter. She called LS “the hardest working guy she had ever seen.”
Macailya said fans have every right to criticize Cloud9. Such a blatant criticism of an employer on social media is actually a taboo. This suggests that there have been tensions between Macailya and Cloud9 recently.
Streamer wishes for a family, but Tyler1 hates any change
What does Macaiyla mean by the children and the money? It is hard to understand Macaiyla without knowing her circumstances:
- Macaiyla actually wants a “normal life” with family and a normal job
- In reality, she sees her actual job as being “Tyler1’s girlfriend” and also streaming on Twitch in that role. Tyler1 even employs his own mother as a cook
- The community of Tyler1 is also Macaiyla’s community – and they are very harsh in their interactions. There are many flames and insults. Macaiyla is regularly attacked by her viewers.
The streamer lives relatively isolated and rural with LoL streamer Tyler1 in the state of Missouri in the USA. Tyler1’s life, and thus Macaiyla’s life, revolves around League of Legends, gaming, and Twitch. As reported by the Washington Post, Macaiyla actually wants a “relatively normal” life, would like to have a family, and work as a cashier in a store (via washingtonpost).
As a Twitch streamer, she earns about $200,000 a year but says:
“I don’t care if I lose all my followers tomorrow. It means nothing. I miss people, human interaction, seeing their emotions on their faces.”
The Post article states: Macaiyla actually wants to get married soon, move to a big city, and have three to five kids. But Tyler hates any kind of change and wants to stay in rural Missouri.
