On Steam there is a plethora of games. A developer released his first project over 10 years ago and became known for it. Now he wants to publish his new game in a few months, which is supposed to be his best.
Which legendary developer is it? Edmund McMillen is the developer behind the Roguelite hit The Binding of Isaac
. The remake is ranked 19th in the Top 250 on Steam and has a 97% positive rating with over 300,000 reviews (steam250.com).
In an interview with the YouTube channel noclip_2, the legendary developer spoke about his new tactical game and passion project: Mewgenics.
You can watch a trailer for the game here:
What is Mewgenics? In 2012, the team behind the classic Super Meat Boy, which McMillen also worked on, announced that they were working on a new project called Mew-Genics. However, just a few years later, the development was halted. In 2018, McMillen was finally able to secure the rights to the game concept and the name.
Since then, he has been developing his new game Mewgenics. In this Roguelite tactical game, you must breed a horde of cats and battle with them. In the interview, McMillen says the following about Mewgenics: “I truly believe this is my best game.”
On the Steam page of Mewgenics, the developer promises over 200 hours of gameplay, 6 classes with over 50 abilities, over 800 items, and over 200 enemies. A release of the game is planned for February 2026.
Binding of Isaac was just training for the developer
What else does McMillen say about his new game? Mewgenics is his big passion project, as he tells in the interview. To learn game development, he worked on The Binding of Isaac. However, his “test game” has turned out to be one of the most popular games on Steam.
How do fans react to the interview? A viewer on YouTube writes that McMillen and his developer colleague Tyler Glaiel must be crazy if Binding of Isaac was just a warm-up for Mewgenics. User LevilyJade has been waiting for over 10 years for news about the tactical game and did not expect it to actually exist.
