Ayaneo has introduced a gaming handheld for about 2,000 euros. For that amount of money, you get a powerful gaming PC, but you have to sacrifice flexibility.
The renowned Chinese manufacturer Ayaneo has presented its new gaming handheld, the Next 2: In its cheapest configuration, the model features the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 385 and requires a price of 1,999 US dollars. This is reported by the English-language magazine PCGamer.com.
The faster version, with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 64 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD costs already 2,299 US dollars, if you preorder on Indiegogo. That is equivalent to about 2,000 euros. The official selling price will then be 2,699 US dollars. If you want to order the model to Germany, shipping costs and customs fees will also apply.
You can already get a powerful gaming PC for 1,500 euros
Gaming handhelds have always been a very specific niche, as most gamers still prefer a proper console like the PS5/Xbox or a gaming PC. The Steam Deck has been able to position itself very well with a fair price-performance ratio.
What do you get for the money? Even 2,500 euros is already very expensive for a specialized niche product. Because for that money, you can get a powerful gaming PC: For example, you can get a computer with AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RX 9070 XT, and 16 GB DDR5 for the provider CSL for 1,500 euros.
With the mentioned example system, you can play all modern games in WQHD with high details and can upgrade or modify the system if needed. With Ayaneo’s model, that is not possible.
Is such a device worth so much money? For certain groups of people, such as those who travel a lot, a handheld is often the only way to engage in their hobby. In this case, the price is the ticket to play at all. A PC that collects dust in the home office is ultimately more expensive than a handheld that you use daily.
In the end, it always comes down to the person who wants to buy such a device: If I spend most of my time playing on the PS5 or a powerful gaming PC, then the 2,000 euros seem absurdly high.
