Who is Jett? Jett is one of the two poster characters for Valorant, alongside Phoenix, with which the game is promoted. According to Riot Games, the agile agent hails from Korea and is a sort of nimble ninja. Similar to her colleague Genji from Overwatch, Jett relies primarily on quick movement and aerial acrobatics.
With Jett, you can bring a lot of pace to the rather slow, tactical gameplay of the Beta of Valorant, provided you master her skill set!
What role does she play in the team? Jett is described as a duelist. This means her job is mainly to locate and eliminate opponents. With her high mobility and deadly ultimate, she is optimized for flanking attacks. Jett can approach unnoticed from unexpected angles and strike unexpectedly.
Furthermore, she is wonderfully suited for so-called “clutches” due to her excellent mobility. These are fights in which the last player of a team single-handedly takes out an overwhelming force and turns the tide. Since Jett is usually quicker than her enemies, she wins 1vs1 duels more often. With her ultimate, she can even wipe out entire teams if used skillfully.

Passive Ability – Glide
What does this skill do? This ability is quite something. When you hold the jump button in the air, Jett glides slowly to the ground.
What is it good for? Gliding is perfect for avoiding fall damage. Additionally, you can stay in the air for a long time in combination with the skills Updraft and/or Tailwind, allowing you to cover large distances while flying.
Is Gliding good for air attacks? Only to a limited extent, as accuracy significantly decreases. If you don’t have a shotgun and are close to the enemy, you should preferably not shoot from the air. Exception: Your ultimate knives are 100% accurate even while airborne and are well-suited for attacks.
Tailwind – E-Skill
How do you get this skill? This ability is automatic for Jett, so you don’t have to buy it first. It can be used once and reloads when you get 2 kills.
What does Tailwind do? When you activate the skill, Jett propels herself in a straight line several meters in the direction you’ve just chosen. If you are standing still, Jett simply jumps forward.
What is the skill good for? Primarily, you use this skill to quickly escape from tricky situations. This way, you can swiftly flee and survive during a surprise attack. Additionally, the skill is ideal for passing through intersections where your enemies are waiting for you. Unlike Omen’s similarly functioning teleport action, Jett can use her skill immediately and does not need to charge it (channel).
What creative uses does the skill offer? What not all players realize: You can also dodge backwards with the skill if you go backward or make quick sidesteps. Another popular trick is to rush an enemy from a smoke cloud to surprise them.
What you should keep in mind: Be careful when using Tailwind, as Jett stows her weapon briefly, so if you dash into the enemies, you might find yourself without a weapon for that critical millisecond. However, Jett’s ultimate is not affected by this, making her even deadlier.
Updraft – Q-Skill
How do you get this skill? Updraft must be bought for 200 credits each. The maximum is 2 uses. This skill cannot be replenished during the game, so use it wisely.
What does Updraft do? When you activate the skill, Jett propels herself straight up several meters. You can use the skill twice in a row, allowing you to gain even more altitude.
What is the skill good for? This skill is one of Jett’s most powerful traits. You can quickly jump over obstacles and even reach locations that would otherwise be unreachable. Along with Sage (Ice Wall as a climbing aid), Omen (Teleport), and Raze (Explosives as a catapult), Jett is one of only four characters who can do such things.
What creative uses does the skill offer? In combination with the passive ability Gliding and Tailwind, you can stay in the air surprisingly long and cover great distances. Moreover, never forget that the elevated positions Jett can reach are optimal camping spots for ambushes. Most players do not look up as they traverse the map.
What you should keep in mind: Remember that you only have 2 uses of Updraft and do not waste them. Additionally, you are very inaccurate in the air, making air attacks only marginally effective. Only with the ultimate can you hit precisely.
Cloudburst – C-Skill
How do you get this skill? Cloudburst must be bought for 100 credits each. A maximum of 3 stacks is possible. This skill also cannot be replenished during the game. So think carefully about its use.
What does Cloudburst do? This skill is essentially a smoke grenade. You throw a sphere that creates a smoke cloud and blocks visibility. It is not possible to see what is inside or behind the sphere. Additionally, note that this skill can be activated instantly; you do not need to set it up first like, for instance, Brimstone’s smoke bombs. This makes Jett’s smoke bombs tactically more useful.
What is the skill good for? Since the sphere obstructs visibility, it is excellent for clouding an enemy position before the attack. This way, you and your team can attack optimally and you are especially protected from snipers and other slow-firing weapons. You can lay down up to three spheres simultaneously and thus obscure a larger area. Therefore, this skill is the only ability of Jett that provides concrete utility for her team.
What creative uses does the skill offer? If you liked Phoenix’s Curveball, you will be pleased to know that Jett can do that too. If you hold down the skill button (default C), you can give the thrown sphere a spin and throw it in a curved manner. Just move the crosshair while holding the action key, and the sphere will fly in a curve.
Additionally, in dire situations, such as being the victim of a surprise attack, you can throw the sphere directly at the enemy to obstruct their visibility. Use the chaos to escape.
Also, keep in mind that you and your team cannot see anything inside the sphere. But what are scouts like Sova or Cypher for, helping to reveal enemies? Then you will still see the foes.
Additionally useful: Listen for the sound of reloading when hiding inside the sphere. That will be the perfect moment to attack the enemy unexpectedly.
What you should keep in mind: Jett’s smoke spheres are slightly smaller than other skills of this type in the game. Keep this in mind. Furthermore, you are not invulnerable inside the smoke sphere. While snipers and other single-shot weapons will likely miss you, fast-firing weapons like LMGs, SMGs, and assault rifles like the Phantom are optimal for perforating you even in the fog. So be cautious if the enemy has such weapons.
Blade Storm – Ultimate
How do you get this skill? Like all ultimates, you cannot buy Blade Storm. You must charge it with a total of 6 points before it is ready for use. You earn points as usual through kills, collecting ultimate orbs in the match, ending a round, and planting a spike. After that, the skill is available until you use it and then must be recharged as described above.
What does Blade Storm do? When you activate Blade Storm, 5 kunai throwing knives suddenly float around you. Your regular weapon is temporarily gone. The knives are fired individually with the left mouse button. The right mouse button throws all remaining knives at the target. Each knife deals 150 damage with a headshot and 50 damage with a body or leg hit. The knives remain active until you die, the round ends, or you use them all. If you score a kill with them, all knives are replenished.
Knives for Shooting – What is the point? The throwing knives are 100% accurate. They fly exactly where your crosshair points and they are hitscans. There is no delay between pulling the trigger and hitting. It doesn’t matter whether you are standing still, crawling, or running. The accuracy is always 100% and is not reduced by movement.
What creative uses does the skill offer? Did you know that in Valorant (just like in Counter-Strike), you run faster when you pull out a knife? The throwing knives count as knives, so you are super fast and also have an extremely precise weapon. The 100% accuracy even holds true when fighting from the air using Gliding and other movement skills.
Additionally, the knives are optimal for “economy rounds,” where you save up for better equipment and have nothing decent with you. More than the knives, you essentially don’t need anything else, and you can either save your money or gift a teammate a weapon.
What you should keep in mind: Your knives only fully recharge when you get kills with them. This works best with headshots because otherwise you need at least 2 hits with the knives. So aim well!
Jett Gameplay – Tips & Tactics for the Top Attacker
How should I approach with Jett? With Jett, you have the most mobile and fastest heroine of all agents in the game. You should definitely take advantage of this. Don’t run straight into the enemy horde; instead, approach from the flanks. Master the ability Tailwind; it is your most important regular skill:
- With Tailwind, you can quickly escape from tricky situations and cross contested areas by dashing from cover to cover.
- On maps like Split, there are long passages, such as the sewer, that you can quickly traverse with Tailwind. You can fall on the enemy from behind while they don’t expect it.
- Keep in mind that you get Tailwind back after 2 kills. Factor this in by using Tailwind to quickly close the gap with the enemy, get kills, and then escape with the new Tailwind again. This leaves your enemies confused and vulnerable.
- Combined with Cloudburst, you can pull off cinematic ninja escapes. Throw the smoke bomb on the ground in front of you and dash away with Tailwind, confusing your enemy and allowing you to escape.
- But please don’t just rush into the enemies because using Tailwind puts your weapons away, and you need to draw them again. In the worst-case scenario, you might find yourself weaponless in front of the enemy and get taken down.
Next, always ensure your Updraft ability is loaded. This way, you can achieve some surprising kills.
- On many maps, there are stacks of boxes, especially on Haven. Usually, you can’t reach them, but with Updraft, you can. Crouch there as a defender and camp. Enemies often do not look up and can be caught off guard by you.
- Pits and area effects are bad for Jett, but if you know where such obstacles are located, you can simply jump over them. Sometimes a simple jump is enough, and with Gliding, you just float over the danger.
Don’t forget that with Cloudburst, you have a quick and effective way to control the battlefield:
- Preferably throw the smoke bombs around corners to take away visibility from lurking enemies.
- Practice the throw around corners in the training mode; this makes the ability much more useful.
Jett’s ultimate, Blade Storm, is one of the best skills in the game and should definitely be mastered:
- Combine Blade Storm with other skills, preferably Tailwind. The throwing knives won’t be put away as long when using Tailwind compared to regular weapons. Therefore, you can really rush the enemy, kill them, repeat that with the next enemy, recharge Tailwind, and then escape or continue aggressively.
- Always use the single-fire mode (left mouse button) at a distance, but if the enemy is very close, then release all knives with a right-click.
- Use the ultimate either in rounds where it gets tight or when you want to save money. Since the knives replenish with each kill, especially in the endgame, you can practice an extremely fast “run&gun” gameplay that is otherwise not possible in Valorant. Therefore, it is quite common for Jett players to pull off a clutch in a round that is going poorly and carry the whole team.

What should I be careful with when playing Jett/how can I counter her? Jett is a very strong opponent, having numerous advantages in 1vs1 encounters. However, there are a few weaknesses that both you as Jett and her opponents should be aware of:
- Jett needs freedom of movement. If you slow her down or block her, she might not be able to escape in time. Use effects like Sage’s slow or Ice Wall to block her escape routes.
- Use fast-firing weapons like SMGs, rifles, or the Phantom to shoot through smoke clouds and potentially catch a hidden Jett.
- Jett typically comes from unexpected places. If you know she is on the enemy team, always expect her to appear from behind at any moment. Ideally, secure those “back doors” with traps like Cypher’s tripwire. If Jett runs through there, you’ll know she’s coming.
- If you’re playing Jett yourself, be cautious when Cypher is on the enemy team and make sure not to activate the tripwire.
- Always look up when entering a room on maps like Haven. Jett often camps on the boxes.
- Be careful with smoke bombs and other similar effects. Jett can quickly traverse them and might surprise you out of the fog.
- Note that using Tailwind means that she won’t have a weapon shortly after. An advancing Jett is an easy target unless she has her knives out!
- A knife-throwing Jett is a nightmare that you can only defeat in a 1vs1 duel with very fast reflexes. It’s better to try to defeat her with grenades or shots through walls whenever you have the opportunity.
- Although Jett is a type of ninja, she is not necessarily silent. Her skills Tailwind and Updraft are accompanied by audible wind noise, so be mindful of that when facing Jett.
How does Jett function in a team? Jett is not a good team player. She performs very well alone and can only bring a bit of utility to team play with her smoke bombs. Ideally, Jett flanks the enemy and attacks them from behind while the team distracts the enemy elsewhere.
She also excels when she is the last agent left on the team and her ultimate is ready. Jett can potentially defeat an overwhelming force with wild run&gun gameplay and clutch the round.
Therefore, Jett is particularly a good choice when playing with random teammates and you don’t expect much coordination.
Which agent pairs well with Jett? Jett tends to operate alone and doesn’t necessarily need a partner. However, there are a few agents who overall make her more effective:
- Sova can reveal enemies through smoke bombs with his recon arrows, allowing Jett to know where they are, so she can dash in and take them out.
- Sage is a good partner as she can heal you if an attack doesn’t go well. However, be careful not to inadvertently step into her slowing zone or have Sage block your attack path with an Ice Wall.
- Breach is also a good partner, as his skills can stun enemies through walls. Just dash in and finish them off.
- Brimstone can create a perfect stealth path for Jett with the clever use of his smoke bombs.
- In a team with Phoenix, another strong duelist, you can effectively attack an enemy together. Phoenix can confuse opponents with his flashbangs while you rush in to finish off the rest. Additionally, it seems Jett finds Phoenix really attractive, judging by her voice lines…
Jett: Starting Setup and Suitable Weapons
What starting setup is recommended? Jett needs her movement options. Therefore, buy at least one Updraft; luckily, Tailwind is free. As for weapons, choose ones that can quickly kill at close range. If possible, choose either a Shorty or the fast-firing Frenzy. Having at least 1 Cloudburst for surprise attacks or escapes is also beneficial.
What weapon suits Jett? She is always on the move and wants to get close to the enemy. Therefore, SMGs and shotguns work well for her:
- The Specter is not only quiet; it also shoots quickly and is great for run&gun, which fits Jett.
- If you can handle shotguns, you should definitely take the Judge with Jett. Especially when flanking at close range, you can take down enemies with one-hit kills.
- Among the assault rifles, the Phantom is a good choice as it fires quickly and works well at close to medium range. Additionally, it is silent.
- Alternatively, Jett can also serve well as a camper. If you are defending, you can reach otherwise unreachable high spots and snipe from there. In that case, it’s best to use the Guardian, which allows you some mobility.
Where does Jett stand compared to the other agents? Here, it is essential to distinguish between playing Valorant with a well-coordinated team or alone with randoms. In a standard game, where you just want to play a few rounds without much coordination, Jett is a very strong character as a self-sufficient lone fighter. Therefore, she is found in almost every team.
In competitive games and well-coordinated teams, however, the situation changes. Here, the question always arises: “Do we need a top killer or someone to improve the entire team?” For Jett, the outlook is not so good. She can only provide some utility to team advances with her smoke bombs, which other heroes can also do, and sometimes even better.
However, Jett offers an extraordinarily high potential for creating a clutch with her ultimate. So if your round goes badly, you can be glad if Jett is still alive and might turn the tide in a wild 3vs1 knife massacre.
