A tinkerer impresses the gathered community of PC builders on Reddit: He built a modern PC into the case of a PlayStation 1. Perhaps he did this because he is an amateur and had no idea how difficult the task would be. For experienced tinkerers, the task seems impossible: There is simply too little space in the PS1.
This is what the tinkerer says: Shortly after Christmas, a proud father posted in the reddit “PC-Masterrace”: He built his first PC, which he gifted to his son for Christmas. He is now satisfied with the result after overcoming the heat issues by operating his GPU with lower volts than intended.
His son didn’t even know what a PS1 is. He explained to him that it is the great-great-great-grandfather of the PS5. But what mattered to his son was that he now has access to a PC – the fact that the PC comes in a PS1 doesn’t seem to be important to him at all. The father probably did this more as a joke for himself.

Tinkerer says this is his first self-built PC
Has he done something like this before? No, he says he has always assembled the parts for the PC and then had them put together in a shop. In fact, he has primarily used laptops in the last 25 years.
However, he has previously upgraded PCs by installing new graphics cards or memory.
The man says he bought the parts on a whim, hoping everything would fit – and is now glad that this gamble paid off.

What’s inside the PC? The Spanish site 3dJuegos lists the components:
- Gigabyte A520i Dash DC
- Ryzen 5700x
- 2x 16GB @3200MHz memory
- 2TB Lexar 790
- RTX 4060 (modified to fit)
- 330W Gan DC Charger
- 2 Noctua 40mm fans
- 1 40mm high-speed fan
At 3D Juegos, they estimate that the hardware costs about 850. The case, the PS1, is available for about 30 €.
On reddit, the tinkerer patiently answers many detailed questions from the community about which graphics card he used and how it all fits into the narrow case of the PS1. He used many “Frankenstein” parts, he says: items and brands meant for laptops or mini-PCs.

- “I’ve built a lot of PCs, and this should be impossible.”
