It can happen that as a player, you can’t manage to perform every single interaction and situation in a game. Especially when it comes to a huge open-world game with many locations and NPCs like Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, this has led many players to make the game harder than it actually needs to be.
What makes life difficult for players? In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest installment of the series by Ubisoft, there is no automatic health regeneration. The only exception is a passive ability of Yasuke when he eliminates an enemy.
For this reason, it is necessary, as in the previous installments of the series, to use rations to heal oneself. There is a maximum limit to how many supplies you can carry.
Many players on Reddit noted through a Reddit post that they took way too long to find the solution to this problem – let alone that there is even a solution, as one player (with the fitting username “there_is_always_more”) noted: “I played through the entire game and just now found this out” (via Reddit).

How can one increase the number of their rations in the game? To have more rations available, the author of the post reports his own realization:
I took way too long to realize this (…), but when you are in a town, see a food vendor (the noodle bowl symbol) and interact with them, the amount of rations you carry is permanently increased by 1. I passed by a whole bunch of them when I was too impatient to stop. I only ate at a few of them and wondered why my rations suddenly seemed to increase by 1.

For this reason, he tested his theory and indeed, interacting with the food vendor gave him an upgrade to his ration capacity. However, he added that this does not work on a 1-to-1 basis. You must speak to a certain number of vendors before the possible number of rations is increased.
Additionally, the maximum capacity differs between Naoe and Yasuke. What remains relevant, however, is that several players should start occasionally grabbing some food in the game. Because the player was by no means the only one for whom this realization was new.
How does the community react to the hint? Some reactions in the Reddit post show that the issue with rations was more widespread than suspected:

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series since March 20, 2025.
