September in Pokémon GO is here, and with it the first Spotlight Hour. We summarize what you can expect.
When does the Spotlight Hour start? The first Spotlight Hour in September starts on 02.09.2025 at 6:00 PM. It lasts for 60 minutes as always, and normal spawns return at 7:00 PM.
Which Pokémon appears? This time, Pidgey is the star of the evening. Pidgey is from the first Pokémon generation and belongs to the Normal and Flying types. It evolves into Pidgeotto and Pidgeot. Pidgeot also has a Mega Evolution.
What bonus applies? During the Spotlight Hour, you will receive double the amount of experience points for all Pokémon you evolve during the event period. Make sure to check your Pokémon collection and look for the filter “Can evolve.”
Currently, there is also an XP event in preparation for the upcoming increase of the level cap.
Is the Spotlight Hour with Pidgey worth it?
Interestingly, Pidgey has not been caught that often in recent weeks and months, so it is a good opportunity to catch one of the original monsters if you don’t have a Pidgey in your collection yet.
However, most long-time players have likely caught quite a few Pidgey already.
Can Pidgey be shiny? Yes, it can. However, the shiny rate is not increased.
Is Pidgey strong? Not really – neither in PvE nor in PvP. In the list of the best attackers in Pokémon GO, other Pokémon are ahead. This also applies to Pidgeotto and Pidgeot, both are not exactly top monsters.
The exception here is Mega Pidgeot. It is among the best Flying attackers and can also boost other Pokémon in battle. However, you will need the appropriate Mega Energy for that, and it is not available tonight.
Is the bonus worth it? Given the upcoming level increase, it is definitely worth filling up the XP account. Maybe you can also level up a few stages before the changes to the level system!
