The crossbow has few enthusiastic supporters in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone. But it can be a nasty monster, especially in the Battle Royale offshoot Warzone, taking opponents out of the KO phase. Try this explosive OP setup.
Why is the crossbow so unpopular? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare offers players a lot of weapons, including a few oddities like the double-barreled shotgun 725 or the crossbow. While the 725, with its 2 snappy shots in the chamber, excites many soldiers, the slow crossbow usually stays in the weapons cabinet – too slow, too weird, too bad.
However, in Warzone, this rather old-fashioned weapon could become a hit. With an explosive setup, the bolt-firing weapon gets enough power to shoot weakened enemies directly out of the match and leave opponents no chance of revival.
Explosive setup makes crossbow shine in Warzone
What does the setup look like? With this equipment combination, you rely on the nasty explosive bolts and increase the speed of your projectiles for hits at long distances:
- Cable: 28-strand cable
- Bows: XRK Thunder 90 kg
- Sight: XRK Rangemaster VZ
- Bolt: FTAC Fury 20″ bolt
- Extra: Agility
The strong cable paired with the 90 kg draw weight of the bow makes the bomb bolts “arrow-fast” onto your enemies. As an extra, you can take “Agility” to reduce the long loading time of the bolts. If you don’t mind the long reload time, switch to a stock or underbarrel to increase aiming stability.
With the “XRK Rangemaster”, you get a special sight for the crossbow that provides you with 2 zoom levels: 3.0x and 6.1x magnification. If the large sights are not to your liking, or you want to avoid lens reflection, you can use something smaller here. In general, you should play this setup like a sniper in Warzone.
What’s important are the explosive arrows and the attachments for faster bolts. Here you can find a bit of crossbow gameplay so you can see for yourself how strong the combo can be:
Why is it so strong? With this setup, you get an unusual weapon with advantages that no other firearm can provide. In Warzone, especially 3 properties stand out that make the weapon absolutely OP in the right hands:
- Bolts do not need to hit to get kills
- Explosive projectiles can take opponents out of the KO phase
- One-shot kills without headshot hits
With that, the setup makes a solid statement, and rightly so. The explosive bolts can take out players, even if they have two full armor plates. After they are “downed” and lying on the ground, the bolt goes off and sends them directly to the Gulag.
Even players with full plates are not safe. Arrow and explosion deal enough damage to knock out the enemy. With one shot, this can only be done by the powerful sniper weapons of Warzone.
And even if the arrow misses, you still have a good chance of getting a big hit. Within a radius of about one meter around the bolt, there’s a powerful explosion that hurts a lot.

How do I get the crossbow? You don’t get the weapon just by leveling up; instead, you have to unlock the crossbow with a challenge. Unlocking and leveling up can take some time, but it could be worth it. With this nasty OP setup, you leave no chance for the opponents you catch.
But here also lies the weakness of the otherwise really nasty setup – hitting with the crossbow is not that easy.
