Gameplay: Story, Mechanics, and Gacha
What is Infinity Nikki about? The protagonist Nikki is suddenly transported with her cat companion from her attic to the magical world of Miraland.
There, she is supposed to collect so-called “Miracle Outfits” to save the world from the impending evil. Meanwhile, players explore various locations, meet new characters, assist them with personal tasks, and get to know the world of Miraland.
The gameplay of Infinity Nikki heavily relies on the different outfits and their special abilities. They allow for various movement options, fishing for fish, or the ability to “cleanse” hostile beings from evil influence.
How does the gacha system of Infinity Nikki work? Gacha is a game mechanic through which players receive random rewards in exchange for in-game currency. Infinity Nikki has a gacha system with its own currency in the form of crystals. These are obtained by completing tasks, but also through in-game transactions with real money.
Players use these crystals to pull normal or limited banners, which contain outfits of various rarity values. Pulling a 5-star outfit is quite rare (in the beta, the probability was 1.5%).
For this reason, Infinity Nikki has a “pity system” to guarantee rare items after a certain number of attempts: Every 10 attempts includes at least one 4-star piece, every 20 attempts at least one 5-star piece.
What game is Infinity Nikki compared to? Infinity Nikki’s open and lovingly designed world strongly reminds many people of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is not entirely incorrect, as Kentaro Tominaga, Sub-Director of Infinity Nikki, previously worked for Nintendo for 20 years and was also involved as a game designer in the development of Breath of the Wild.
