The Big Bang Theory has already received several spin-offs, but next week the craziest one seems to be coming out. In a new series, a supporting character has to deal with the multiverse and the apocalypse.
Which series is it about? Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy have already been released as 2 prequels to The Big Bang Theory. While these series were classic sitcoms, the next spin-off takes a much more absurd approach.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe puts the comic book seller Stuart, played by Kevin Sussman, in the lead role. Instead of dealing with everyday problems, the insecure guy faces a multiversal apocalypse.

From a Sitcom to Sci-Fi
What is Stuart Fails to Save the Universe about? The world seems to be doing very poorly. At least, the trailer already shows a post-apocalyptic world reminiscent of Fallout. As Stuart learns from another Stuart, there is apparently a device that Leonard and Sheldon built, with which the world can be saved.
Together with Bert, played by Brian Posehn, Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus, and Kripke, played by John Ross Bowie, he tries exactly that. Unfortunately, this method seems not to have worked as planned. Chaos ensues across multiple multiverses.
The trailer also already shows a first glimpse of possible universes. There is a classic post-apocalypse, an ice world, a world with living cartoon characters, and a sci-fi world where the characters wake up bald in disgusting tanks with tubes. Whether these worlds will be shown in more detail or only briefly touched upon is unclear. Also, popular characters from the series universe are supposed to appear as alternate variants.
Overall, it is a very unusual approach for a spin-off. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe seemingly takes familiar characters from the original series and builds a sci-fi story around them instead of producing another classic sitcom.
When will Stuart Fails to Save the Universe be released? On Friday, July 24, 2026, the new series is set to premiere in Germany on HBO Max. The first season consists of 10 episodes, which will be released weekly.
