In a Q&A session in January 2025, the developers of Exodus answered some questions from the community. Among other things, it was about the playable faction of the new SciFi RPG.
What kind of faction is that? In Exodus, you take on the role of Jun, a descendant of Orion Aslan, a legendary Traveler of the world Lidon. In a Q&A session for January 2025 (via YouTube), the developers revealed more about the player faction.
As a Traveler, you are part of an organization that hunts for ancient alien artifacts and technologies during interstellar expeditions. A sort of Indiana Jones with a SciFi twist, then. But there is more Disney in the Traveler.
There are elements that are supposed to feel elitist and somewhat mysterious. One can take a little inspiration from the Jedi, but there is no Jedi Council in the game representing an overarching structure. They are a bit renegade, a bit independent, but they still work towards a common goal, to save humanity. And I think that is a unifying force that accompanies them on their interstellar journeys and distinguishes them from the typical journeys in the timeline.

The latest gameplay trailer for Exodus:
What else do the developers reveal? Although you play as Jun, a prescribed character, you are supposed to have enough options in character creation to create your own version of the protagonist.
Rather, your version of Jun is supposed to be defined by the decisions you make throughout the adventure. Even in September 2024, the developers promised hard-hitting decisions and consequences. In addition, there is gameplay progression with skill trees and more, through which you can influence your character.
The topic of time dilation was also brought up. Since you are racing through space at the speed of light on your journeys, time passes differently on the home planet. When you return, one or even four decades may have passed. The decision of who gets to go and who stays behind, therefore, has tangible consequences for each relationship.
By the way, there is still no official release date for Exodus. However, a clue is the possibility to become a “Founder” for the game and support it early. This is currently only possible until August 30, 2025. Therefore, the game is likely still at least 8 months away from release, but potentially much longer.
Who is behind Exodus? The responsible studio Archetype Entertainment includes many veterans, including from experienced developers like BioWare, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Bethesda, and 343 Industries. The influence of the Mass Effect franchise is likely to be significant. All trailers so far emphasize this, such as from December 2024: SciFi RPG Exodus shows gameplay that Mass Effect fans are likely to be very excited about
