You are now finally coming to the starting area of GTA Online in GTA V, but you are not as free as you would like to be.
Which region is it? In GTA Online, you will soon be able to go to North Yankton, which is the starting area of GTA V.
- The story of GTA V begins in the town of Ludendorff in the state of North Yankton.
- The protagonists Michael Townley (later Michael De Santa) and Trevor Philips commit a robbery in this town. They are supported by their accomplice Brad Snider.
- However, Michael betrays his partners and turns them in to the FIB to start a new life with his family.
- While Trevor manages to escape, Brad dies from gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, Michael fakes his own death and starts a new life in Los Santos as Michael De Santa.
Later, you only return to North Yankton in GTA V once more when Trevor, during the story, wants to know who lies in Michael’s grave in the cemetery of Ludendorff.

North Yankton in GTA Online
What role does North Yankton play in GTA Online? None. Until today, there has been no official way to get to North Yankton in Online mode. There are neither individual missions nor a map expansion or anything similar in Ludendorff.
Anyone wanting to visit North Yankton with their online character had to resort to unofficial ways. Over the years, there have been various exploits that allowed you to be in Ludendorff, even if there wasn’t much to do or see there.
This, however, is set to change, and 11 years after the release of GTA V, you can finally visit Ludendorff in Online mode – albeit only in a single mode.
How do you get to North Yankton? Rockstar Games announced on October 4 that there will be a new survival battle in North Yankton the following week. There, you will have to defend yourself against zombies in line with the Halloween season.
In survival battle missions, you must withstand up to 10 waves of AI enemies and can collect various weapons and vests for protection. The mode can be played with up to 4 players and gives a small amount of GTA dollars depending on the number of waves survived.
A long-standing wish of the fans: For years, this has been a frequently expressed wish in the GTA Online community on Reddit. Players have repeatedly mentioned that they would like to see North Yankton as a location for individual missions or even as a map expansion.
Especially at the release of the “Cayo Perico” heist, this was a much-discussed topic because fans did not understand why Rockstar created a new island instead of bringing back North Yankton.
