Borderlands 3 has released new information about another planet in the game. A trailer gives first info about Athenas and its inhabitants.
Only a few weeks left until Borderlands 3 finally releases. To further stoke the fans’ hype, Gearbox has been releasing new info in the past days. A new video has now been released about one of the planets that we can visit in Borderlands 3: Athenas.
What is going on in Athenas? Athenas is an ancient planet where numerous ruins can be found. These ruins are from an ancient civilization, about which not much is known today. In these ruins, a cult of monks has settled, who guard various relics and artifacts. Exactly what the deal is with these monks will surely be revealed throughout the story. After all, even quite a loser has gotten their own planet.
However, it seems that other factions have also become interested in the artifacts, as the planet is under attack. Mechanical skags and beings in strange suits bearing the logo of the weapon manufacturer Maliwan have arrived there and apparently want to conquer the relics for themselves. Their writing can also already be seen on the ruins.
Athenas could bring a lot of Siren story: Especially for lore fans, the planet Athenas is likely to be a highlight. There should be plenty of background information about the Sirens and their role in the cosmos. After all, some relics on the planet clearly belonged to former Sirens. Those interested in the story of Amara, Maya, and Lilith will surely encounter one or two surprises on Athenas.
Especially Maya, the Siren hero from Borderlands 2, is likely to have a lot of story here. After all, this is her home planet, where she was revered like a divine being – namely by the monks and their “Order of the Impending Storm”.
