Alongside games like “Dungeonborne” and “Dark and Darker”, a new dungeon crawler is now trying its luck on Steam. Its biggest unique selling point is a mechanic that should make your journey into the depths even more unpredictable.
What game is this about? “Dungeon Stalkers” is a third-person role-playing game from the South Korean developer studio Action Square. In it, you explore dungeons where you must fend off not only AI monsters and other players, but also the curse of a witch.
The game is set to be released on Steam sometime in 2024, but no exact release date has been announced yet. A global beta test for the game ran from August 12 to August 26.

What makes the game special? With Dungeon crawlers now available in a fairly large selection on Steam, why should one choose “Dungeon Stalkers”? The game’s answer is its witch’s curse mechanic.
In the background, a witch casts curses that can have both positive and negative effects for our own and other stalkers. These curses are randomly distributed over time – so you never know whether the next curse will save you or spell your doom.
According to the developers in a conversation with PCGamesN, the witch’s curses are supposed to level the playing field for all players. Under the influence of a curse, even the best survivors must be on guard, as even beginners can pose a danger at that moment.
How was the last beta received? On Reddit, the last beta was met with some disillusionment. The lack of visible character progression was criticized, as the armor worn by our stalker currently has no impact on the player model.
User Kylewizerd13 concluded on the beta on Reddit with the following remark: “Tried two rounds, I don’t think it’s for me. I’d rather let it simmer for another year or two; it feels very empty compared to other games like Dark and Darker”.
