Last week, Turnip Boy Robs a Bank was released on Steam. The quirky name is reflected in the game, as you must rob a bank as a little turnip to save your vegetable world. The game is perfect for fans of bad puns and fast-paced gameplay.
What is Turnip Boy Robs a Bank?
- Following Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, the sequel Turnip Boy Robs a Bank was released last week
- As a little turnip, you must rob a bank
- You can find various weapons and unlock gadgets for this
- The gameplay loop is inspired by roguelite games
- Within a certain time limit, you can explore the bank and make as much money as possible
- After each run, you will find new secrets and can upgrade yourself
The game benefits from the short runs. Depending on upgrades, a run takes only a few minutes and you can always upgrade something. Additionally, the game is great for quick sessions, as it is not incredibly difficult compared to genre peers.

Shooting and Robbing Vegetables
The gameplay can be most compared to something like Enter the Gungeon. Inside the bank, you have a limited time to explore everything. With melee and ranged weapons, you can defeat bosses and guardians in the bank from a top-down perspective. If you bring found weapons back to the base, you can sacrifice them to unlock new starting weapons.
Similar to Enter the Gungeon, the weapons are quirky. You have cactus pistols, pineapple rocket launchers, or a frog that shoots soap bubbles. Discovering these new weapons is fun, especially since there are many Easter eggs.
Apart from just shooting, you also need to make money. You rob hostages by shaking them like a school bully or break things and collect the cash. Through later upgrades, you can also open safes with C4 or a laser.
The money can be spent in the base after each run to buy new gadgets for exploration or to upgrade your turnip. Compared to other rogue-lites, the game belongs to the lighter variety, and the gameplay is quite relaxed except for one boss.
Charming Characters and Bad Puns
The big highlight of the game is the charm that bursts at the seams. Just the animations of your turnip and the many NPCs in the bank are filled with slapstick humor. When the turnip runs and stumbles, you can’t help but laugh.
The side quests and the accompanying dialogues are fantastic. If you are a fan of bad puns about vegetables and groceries, you have found a true treasure here. When a cupcake tells us about its life experience and mentions that it is already 1 day old, you can’t help but smile.
For fans of the first part (Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion), there are many recurring characters and plenty of references to past events. However, the game can also be enjoyed without any prior knowledge.
The community on Steam also seems to love the game. Among 381 reviews on Steam, 96% are positive. The reviews particularly praise the charm and humor.

If you liked the look of the first game and are a fan of faster gameplay, you will like this game! It has a lot of funny Easter eggs and interactions.
- Flashfal:
Actually more fun than Payday 3
- NicoPlaysIndies:
Robbing a bank has never been so fun
The comments ironically mention Payday 3 and that Turnip Boy is the better game. Payday 3 disappointed many fans of the series last year: Payday 3 was one of the most wanted games on Steam – Now the shooter crashes hard, fans complain and are disappointed
